Flywheel install question

I am installing a fidanza aluminum flywheel and in the direction it says to use oem torque specs..is this true?

if so what are they?

You must get new flywheel bolts (10) They are one time use only. I ordered from local Toyota dealer.

The LCE torque specs (in the link above) don't match the FSM.

The listed torque spec (19 ft. lbs., then turn 90 degrees) is for a 3RZ only (according to the FSM).

For a 2RZ, the FSM lists the torque spec for the flywheel-to-crankshaft bolts as simply 65 ft. lbs.

I have reused them with no problems, and have done so probably 20 times (not all on the same one) Or upgrade to ARP if you want piece of mind.

Also use some RED loctite on them. And when tightening do so in a criss-cross pattern as well as the clutch pressure plate in small steps. Also use (i use blue) loc-tite on pressure plate bolts as well.

Also clean all mating surfaces of the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate with brake clean to get all the oil off them before install (probably already knew that).

I think thats how 1 ARP bolt snapped back in 2006.

Someone should clear this up. I cant find my Haynes book and i cant get to ALLDATA in school.

2012 ....

6 years later ^

I'm going with new stock bolts with red loctite this time.

The figures I quoted are from the FSM. They're consistent from 1995.5 through 2004.

I called luis today and asked him. He said he torques the ARP bolts to 65 ft lbs like the oem bolts. Luis also mentioned that 65 ft lbs has never backed out on him. Keep in mind ARP bolts are NOT Torque to Yield bolts. They can be reused and because of this, the 19 + 90 spec is wrong for them, you will never see a TTY bolt with a degree added on to its spec.

Harder, stronger bolts (like ARP) will typically have higher torque ratings than other bolts with comparable threads. Torque ratings are also specified with a lube type.

The person I had helping me and I did 19 ft lbs + 90 degrees and we did not lube the bolts or use loctite (I have put 200 highway and street miles on it since). I am rather worried and am considering strongly to pull it ALL back apart...which makes me sick to my stomach.

I do not have a huge jack and huge jackstands so I will have to buy all that.

I just gun all of mine on in a star formation, I go by sound with my impact and I've never had a problem..
I wouldn't worry about it..
