Trucks that came with a bench seat will have the same 4 front holes as a truck with buckets, except the inside front ones will be under the carpet by the tranny hump, so you'll have to find them and make a little hole in the carpet there, plus get bolts.
The rear outside holes will be the same for bench and bucket, but when swapping buckets into a truck that had a bench, you'll have to customize the foot on the inside rear of each bucket seat because the tranny hump on a std cab truck has a hole on each side, but it's for the seat belt the bench seat used, is a bit bigger in diameter, (uses a bigger bolt) and sideways on the hump, not flat on the floor. This means the foot on the bucket seat won't line up with it.
This is why I'm running around with 3 mounts on each bucket seat I swapped in from a 95 extra cab into my 99 std cab. All 3 lined up, but not the inside rear. I still need to customize the inside rear of each bucket seat mount to use the holes that are on the side of the tranny hump, since there aren't any holes on the floor of std cab trucks since they only came wit bench seats.

Good summary, Brian!
Just one little point ... I don't remember the exact years or details, but there were such things as Regular Cab trim options (one or more times during the 1995.5 - 2000 period) that offered bucket seats from the factory. So there are such things as pre-2001 Regular Cabs that were configured for buckets at the factory.

Very interesting...I had no idea. I assumed all std cabs came with a bench and no option of buckets, pretty cool...and rare! Thanks for your vast knowledge as usual Randy.

SST tacomas were one such example. My 99 was an SST, although now it has Celica buckets.
Yep - the SST package was one such example. However, the SST package was a regional (not factory) option in the Southeast Region (and maybe Gulf States).
I wouldn't be surprised to learn there were multiple such regional offerings back when. The problem is that there's no documentation on those - we only know about them when someone reports having one.
There was a factory trim level that included buckets in Regular Cabs (maybe one of those mysterioua DLX, LX, etc., thingies) back in the 1990's. So it's possible to run across a pre-2001 Regular Cab with OEM buckets nationwide.

Oh wow,,that is interesting. I see the SST often enough here in Florida that I assumed it was a nationwide package. Guess I am more special than I thought

What's SST? How would you spot it by looking?

The SST package was a regional option in the Southeast. It included buckets, some Enkei wheels, and maybe a bundle of other options. SST's also had a prominent decal indicating 'SST' status.
