Default Map light LED install

I replaced my incandescent map lights with LEDs. I went with the 3022-CWHP2 bulbs http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs..._3022-xHP2.htm from superbrightleds.com I like the bright white light much better than the orangish stock bulbs. Don’t let the two LEDs per bulb fool you. They come close in light output to the 16 LEDs that are in my Oznium dome light. The pictures were taken with the flash on, but show the big difference between stock and the "cool white" LEDs.

Cover off. Left = stock Right = LED

Covers on. Left = stock Right = LED

Was it pretty much a 'plug and play' installation? Any additional tweaks or adjustments necessary?

It was totally plug and play with no modifications needed. Before I ordered, I measured the length of the stock bulbs with calipers..... 30.5mm. The 30 in 3022-CWHP2 is the length in millimeters. The bulbs in that series with more than two LEDs were longer so I had to stick to the two LED bulbs. They put off plenty of light.

One thing nice about that specific LED bulb is it works no matter which way you put it in (you don't have to worry about polarity). I saw at least four diodes on the board so they must have used a bridge rectifier input to do that. That is a nice touch that makes it totally plug and play. They are $6.95 each.

Thanks again Matt.

My tach's wide-angle LEDs (five per bulb) were way too bright and also caused hot spots. So I replaced them with with single LED bulbs and problem solved. While I was at it I also got the same map light ones and they are nice!
