As many of us were, but his place is only so big. It also put a large burden on him because for the most part, he was cooking very early in the morning for a long time, and was then pretty beat when it came time to hang out. Not to mention he then had to get up again Sunday to do breakfast.
Well with everyone running off to other sites the list will be alot shorter. We could hold it at Rays again and just order out
I know I shouldn't laugh about that but that does give me a slight chuckle at that thought. Though I will admit I would be sad if we didn't get to have the chance to go back to the ranch. But what is another couple of hours of driving to Ray's

I wasn't at the ranch, but I personally liked the atmosphere at Ray's place. I do understand how much of a hassle it could be for him and Donna to execute though.
First, let me say.. I enjoyed them all very much. Whether hosting or attending as I did last year. And trust me.. I know that it puts a hardship on some of you for a number of reasons. IE: ( more time needed off to go.. more money needed for gas and housing arrangements.. and not having that "at home" feeling we always tried to have waiting here, for everyone that attended.. ).
The hardship for me was naturally the uncertainty of how many peeps would actually attend. 160 say they will as you are planning for months and then the final count may be only half of that number. And I do not fault anyone that had an obligation that had to be dealt with for not attending. Life goes on.. However, when you are figuring that 160 said they would come and know from the past that only half will but have to factor in that "maybe" this time every one will show up.. Its quite stressful... to say the least. And there is the "cost".. No one ever asked exact numbers, and even being the bargin shopper and meal planning wiz I am.. It figured to be between $17-$20 per person for the food and there was table rentals, chairs (ok, they were not much as I donated to the fire hall and got a good deal) but all in all. For 65-70 peeps, I was looking at a $1500 weekend before it was said and done. And what started as a Saturday and Sunday event, needed to be extended to allow peeps from farther areas to be able to attend making for a long long weekend. Trust me.. I would not turn anyone away.. Hell I let the Canadians attend.. (LOL) But, it just got too big.. I have a half acre and 2100 sq foot of home.. When you have 45 peeps sleeping over and all those trucks parked in your yard. Its a sight to behold and a handful..
As far as a central location.. I would love it.. I tried to acheive this years ago, but could not find a suitable place for X number of trucks and bodies. I own 10 acres in Arkansas, unfortunately its without a house or shelter no running water and no facilities.. Sure Porta-Potty's was a thought.. But, you figure that 2 days(minimum) of bed head and lack of baths and your fellow CT'zens will not be as, lets just say warm n fuzzy is one thing but fuzzy and scuzzy you get the picture... Myself and Jeff had hoped for a National CT rally/meet and had hoped that TACOBERFEST would pull it together. Unforseen circumstances like gas prices, unemployment and demanding hours if you want to keep your job took a toll on last years attendees. The ranch, has everything we need.. Beds, bathrooms, showers, plenty of parking, plenty of open space, out of the rain shelter, everything.. But, it is a hike and it was not free. As for 2009.. I will say this for the record.. If it is to be held, I would suggest that you start saving money for it now.. $10 a week, from now til the date it happens should be plenty. Regardless of where it is to be held. And again. Who knows what the future will be like by summer.. Gas could easily be $10 a gallon or it could be $1.00 a gallon.. How do you plan for it this far in advance? Could anyone of you make a 100% commitment to attend as of tommorrow, regardless of gas prices or if the price of the cabins increased another $15-$20? Plan ahead.. thats all I can say for now.. Plan ahead and put some cash away.. We will see where it goes from there..

Texas (which would qualify for the center) is too hot and muggy, New Mexico is dry, warm and sunny
What better place than Albuquerque
Definitely double the tacos coming from all directions.
Ok, maybe someone should question the teaching methods of geography in New Mexico.. Albuquerque is not the center of the U.S. nor is Texas..
Lebanon, Kansas - Geographic Center of the 48 States
Geographic Center of the Contiguous United States is located just north and west of Lebanon, KS, adjacent to a pasture and overseen by a friendly-if-nonplussed herd of cows. The Center is a small grass patch containing a 10 ft. high stone podium and flagpole, on which U.S. and Kansas flags fly. A small plaque on the podium informs visitors that a government geographic survey in 1898(?) established this spot as the center of the continental U.S.
And thats a long way from Albuquerque Toto.... Cause you ain't in Kansas if your in New Mexico..
On that note though.. With all the CT members we have nationwide.. Does not any of you have relatives or friends that own a camp big enough to house 150-600 peeps and park 500+ trucks? that would be the ultimate place to meet, is a place big enough for everyone with housing (sleeping quarters, bathrooms, and parking.. In one location.. After all, we are a group that wants to meet each other not just be in the same county.. Anyone??? The ranch is a white water rafting camp that can sleep up to 200 peeps with adequate parking for 300+ trucks.. just for your information.. So.. anything similar?
Around Kansas? Would be a plus to be in the center..

... it's pretty apparent that the CT population is heaviest on the east and west coasts.
Personally, I thought the Copperhill location was pretty 'centered' for the east coast contingent. NC / TN seem to be pretty much 'dead center' with respect to longitude (north - south). IMHO the only change that even vaguely recommends itself might be to move the site westward in the hopes of getting more folks from the Great Lakes area and / or the Gulf states (Louisiana, etc.).

True.. If we would have gotten one half of all the CT'zens east of Oklahoma, we would have been needing a bigger ranch.. But, like I stated.. I'm up for a "more" centralized location. If, it has all the amenities that would be needed for such a large crowd. Thats one of the major reasons we opted away from trying to rent a "lodge" home in TN.. Sure, sleeping 30 peeps was ok, but they only allowed parking for.. 2 buses or 5 passenger vehicles.. Hmmm, that presented a major problem when it comes to a "truck meet".. State Parks are out, because of their "no alcohol policies. Motels, did someone say? Ok, so we find a Days Inn or Motel 8 and manage to rent 200 rooms at a discounted price.. Where do we eat? As a group? Where do we hang out as a group? Not the kind of CT meet n greet I would want to attend. For those of us that have gone to Carlisle Truck Nationals or any huge truck show and stayed in a motel. Ask yourself this. Did you meet every other competitor in the motel or did you just hang out with 10-20 of the peeps you actually knew.. The whole purpose or the purpose I started Tacoberfest for was to be able to get all the CT'zens together to meet each other and see each others trucks.. That was and is still (to me) the main goal..
