largest tire with no lift

i want to put some bigger tires on but i don't want to get a lift kit (yet). in the easiest terms possible can anyone describe what sort of tire i'm looking for and how i would describe it when i go to purchase them.

what size are your rims? i have stock 17s and i was running 265 70 17s on it depending on the brand of tire they might rub and they might rub i have went through three sets of tires and this thrid set rubs when i turn sharp

i have stock 15" wheels. i like the look of the all terrains but i'm still commuting to work and somehow i don't think those would be too dandy for gas mileage.

what would you suggest?

I've got an 08 reg cab stocker as well ... been thinking about some bigger tires as well.

I dunno ... but maybe a 215/75 AT tire with RWL's or OWL's would look good. Maybe a 225/75 ???

Anybody know ???

forgive my ignorance, but i'm admittedly not a mechanical/car guy. (don't get me wrong, i love my ride but i don't know much aside from air filter replacement and adding some fluids!) what does RWL, OWL stand for?

RWL = raised white letters
OWL = outline white letters

Goodyear shop told me yesterday that 235/75 was the largest they would recommend with out modification ... was looking at the Wrangler M/Ts, real nice fat tires

it's funny you mention that. i was just a firestone shop last night and they said the exact same size. i appreciate the help dude!

per chance, have you ever run into any brake trouble? specifically lots of noise?

no brake noise on my 08 ... none at all.

btw ... i haved found several post with pics, showing that a 30x9.5 tire will fit, even on the stock rims (styled steel wheels). just have to remove the little black box in the wheel well to the rear of the front tires. (only mod I found thats needed.)

i am saving for some plump tires
