Default exhaust manifold heat shield

Can i remove the heat shield that covers the stock exhaust manifold and not have to worry about anything melting??
the shield is cracked in a couple places and makes a god awful noise when my truck is idling so i wanna just remove it. it should be ok right, cause when you run headers there is no shield. just throwin it out there to see what people think

you can also cut away the spots that rub/rattle or maybe use some mounting washers under the bolts/nut to help hold it in place. mine is all cracked but doesn't rattle (yet).
then you can have your shield and not worry about it, just a thought.

GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS

Good news - i removed the damn rattling heat shield, it was cracked in several places as you can see, one of the bolt holes was cracked all the way around

BAD NEWS - after i removed the heat shied i found out my header had a 3 to 4 inch long crack in it

GOOD NEWS - i guess i'm gonna have to get a set of headers

BAD NEWS - I'm still broke

What engine do you have? I will sell you my stock manifold for cheap if its the right size. I should have my DT header finished Monday.

That heat shield is a pain. I repaired mine several times and finally got it to stop rattling.
