Default My Cobra = totaled... but got a '99 Tacoma!

Hi all,

I had my last car - a 1996 Mustang Cobra (super clean, tastefully modded) for 8 yrs. That changed last week when I was rear-ended by a Wrangler doing approx. 45 MPH... totaled.

When I told my uncle what happened, he offered to sell me his almost 300k mile 1999 Tacoma (SR5 ext cab, 2WD, 5 spd) for $700... and I, of course said yes! I always liked his truck, and having just purchased my first house, I was wanting a truck even before the wreck. It's dark red with the black 14" steelies and beauty rims, a billet grill, and dark tint all around. Mechanically, this thing is perfect - he's an engineer and he really kept on top of the maintenance.

The only thing it needs (soon) is tires. It has 215/70/14's right now, but I was thinking of putting on some 225/70/14's... this shouldn't be a problem, right? Also, is 300k miles pretty high for these trucks? I know of the legendary toughness/reliability... anyways, I'm off to use the search function, but any help and/or pics of the 225's would be much appreciated!

(1) Welcome to CT!

(2) 300 K-miles is not as much on a Taco as it is on most other vehicles - provided it's been well maintained and not abused. The 'record' is over 3 times that much ...

(3) The 225/70/14's are reasonably close in diameter to your stock 215/70/14's. They'll throw off you speedometer reading by only about 2% (slower). This is within the 5% factory tolerance. An even closer option would be 225/65/14's (which would make the speedo read 1.3% too fast).

Welcome TaCobra!

Play around with this for tire sizing.. Says "Miata", but tire size is tire size, works great..

Any plans for your truck? Rims off your Mustang bolt right up.. 5x4.5 = 5x114.3
