I ask because it seems like it would be better if we knew what your plans were for offroad to better justify a good answer to your questions.

I want to have a truck that can master my local terrain with speed and mobility incase I had to bug out of the area for some reason. Basically build a solid off-roader and not just one with a lift kit and big tires, but one with purpose to handle the various local terrain features of Wisconsin at just about any speed just incase!
We have open farmland and fields, prairie's that can swallow weaker trucks in the right conditions, glaciated swampy lands, rutted firelanes in the deep north woods, large hills in the southwest part of the state, weather extremes from deep winter snow to flooding sometimes, downed trees after storms and so forth...
When the SHTF and you had to bug out, can your ride handle all of this type of terrain with speed and mobility while carrying survival gear and other stuff?
Bold statement but it requires thinking and building a proper off-roader with purpose and not just one for looks or to handle a mud pit...
I have already mastered driving discipline at both slow and higher speeds on pavement with my X-Runner and the XR would be a great BOV for the street incase I had to bug out from work or play to get home fast. I won't be the one losing control, squeeling tires and crashing into everything on the way home! SCCA parking lot teaches you quick reactions in slower speed while running on road courses teaches you respect at higher speeds and how to handle your ride above 100mph...
Further Baja racing taught me how to read terrain at speed off-road while my local wheeling before Baja taught me how to survive in the slower stuff off-road!
