The XR will serve as a BOV from work or play incase the SHTF when I am away or something...
I will need to get home really quick and the XR will do this whether in the city, on the backroads or the freeway, the XR has its purpose in a SHTF situation...

Old school straight axle fronts...
Not much ground clearance on those things, you should get some protection for your radiator and lower engine...
Not about being paranoid, far from it but being prepared to bug out if I had to...
Nice ride!

Nice ride!
that truck looks body lifted..
if you had to bug out, where would you go? you need a destination to bug out too.. can't just drive forever..
I think your BOV would need a large fuel cell for long distance, 20+ gallons..
a few spare tires, high lift jack, ect..
basically build yourself a baja setup, but with more meat to em..

The only issue left is the lack of a storage.

Re: BOV for SHTF
I'm sure you haven't thought as far into the process of fabrication but I think I can help you out. The best route for you seems like going with a Toyota Pickup chassis, and T-100 cab, than you can build from there. Not sure what smog laws are for you over there but if you have a pain in the ass law like we do in Cali, than you may want to try and find a smog exempt chassis.
Now I'm assuming you have some sort of good income but this sounds ideal. Small chassis to keep it light, big cab for the head room and further away from the cab cage. You can drop whatever suspension upgrades and motor you want.
