yes i have a stock paint job. im not saying i sanded the whole truck, there were just some spots pissing me off and i fixed them. it looks fine. thanks though.
the stock paint job is ****ty on mine anyways from the florida sun. the guy who owned it for two years before me didn't have a garage, so i'll probably paint it again in the distant future. but i wash/wax it regularly to prolong its life.
That Race Glaze I mentioned leaves the paint feeling super smooth..
After washing the truck with Meguires gold, I dried it off and then waxed it with the R/C..
I didn't do my pass side bed panel because of the damage and theres a day and night difference in feel..
It rained today and after a good week after I waxed it,
I've never seen such huge water beads before..
crappy cell pics, but you can somewhat make out the water beads
(left picture) after its been parked all day.. taken fron the front of the hood..
neat water pattern..
I am getting my truck back from the body shop this week with a whole new paint job. What would you recommend to keep it nice? I am not sure what they are going to do other than paint and reassemble... It is a very good shop though, I went there not expecting ANY money back from the settlement just a fantastic paint job.
Thanks,
Rick

You'll want to check out your paint job in the direct sun light. If you don't see any swirls then you're good to go. If you see swirls then that probably means they washed your car with a dirty sponge and coarse towels. If you're paint is smooth like glass then you just need to maintain it.
In order to maintain a swirl free paint job you will need to wash it properly. You need to use non-abrasive sponges and drying towels. Microfibers is your best bet. I use a sheepskin wash mitt from walmart for washing. I use several different brands of microfiber towels for drying.
You only need to polish your car if you swirls or scratches. You can wax as often as you'd like as long as your paint is not dirty.
Take a look at these pictures for swirls.
These are not my pics, just soem that I found over at autopia.com You can see the severity of the swirls.

Rick, talk to the body shop guys. Depending on what paint they used it may be ready for wax or they may want you to wait for 30 - 90 days. Once you get the OK, many of the products mentioned in this thread will serve you well. Meguiar's new NXT 2.0 is available most anywhere and is a good balance of durability and looks. Add in their Ultimate Detailer after you wash the truck and I think you will be very satisfied.
But again, picking wax is like picking motor oil, it depends on who's propaganda you want to believe.
I've used most of the products mentioned in this thread (and then some) and it all comes down to personal preference. Meguiar's is a safe bet!

Re: What wax do you use?
NU Finish, the once a year car polish, lol, even though it sucks if u get it on any of the flat black plastic pieces but a good mr. clean magic eraser takes care of that

for black or darkcolored cars i would reccomend 3M swirl mark remover, works wonders
My wax of choice would have to be Mothers carnuba
MOTHERS Clay Bar makes your paint feel like glass
and ATTN BLACK TRUCK OWNERS!!!!
if u have a black or dark colored vehicle, when u wax it, that causes friction between the pad and the clear coat, then when u wipe it off it creates even more static, making your paint into a magnet for dust,
but not i u have Mr. Wizards Mist and Shine Anti Static Spray!!!
Taco owners im tellin u this stuff kicks ass!!!! U can use it on paint plastic windows, chrome
when you use it on your windows and it rains u dont even need your wipers, it beads off like magic
I sware by it.... look it up they have a whole line of products
There are plenty of waxes that do not cause static. For some reason some waxes are more prone to static than others. Nothing worse than waxing our truck and find dust on it an hour later.
