I'm doing some work on my 1997 Tacoma and now I'm stuck on how to unplug the cable. Its a simple speedometer cable plug but I can't get access to put my hand on the cable. Does anybody have a tip on how to do this?

http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif My friend unplugged his speedometer and it was all screwed up...he plugged it back in....and the speedometer stayed at the 80 mile range.....you should get it professionally done by some carheads. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Thats a bunch of horse pucky! Alls I ended up having to was remove the center heating duct which only rquired the removal of one screw once I had all of plastic off the center and driverside of the dash. I unplugged it and had no problems and have since driven it around with no problems. I have had to work in the area of the speedo cable on other cars before and have had no problems. don't forget a lot of these professional techs had to learn at some point. I imagine that your friend did not get his speedo pluged back all the way or something along those lines.
I just had to replace a bulb inside the cluster but my current Corrado project involves replacing the 140mph speedo with a 160mph one and keeping the same milage http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

just gentlely pull the cluster out toward you. that should pull the speedo cable through the fire wall some. then you should be able to reach back and unplug it. or you can feed the speedo wire into the cab. it looks like a black bike brake cable and is held by a clip near the firewall and enters at something like a 45 degree angle. when you put the cluster back in, be sure to pull the cable back out so it doesn't bind under the dash.

What would be the reason for unplugging the speedo cable. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
