PHARMACY 12-25-2002, 08:40 PM i have a 99' 2rz and i was just wondering how much oil the engine takes. i bought the truck used from the stealership and they said since the previous owner didn't give them a manual that i would have to pay for one....well i can't really afford one right now http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif any help will be greatly appreciated thanks guys... oh yeah by the way they sent me a christmas card...a service manual would have been better damnit lol
Lurch77 12-25-2002, 08:44 PM It uses 5 quarts with a filter change.
I would have made them give me a manual. Heck, as much money as you are giving them, they should be nice enough to spend a little extra and get the manual.
JBTRD00 12-25-2002, 08:57 PM my 2.7 uses 5.7 quarts...or so, so i bet the 2.4 uses around 5...like said above
PHARMACY 12-25-2002, 08:58 PM thanks lurch yeah serious they can't even hook me up with a manual which costs them next to nothing since they are a certified toyota dealer...cheap a$$ punks
JBTRD00 12-25-2002, 09:03 PM "hook you up" with a repair manual? [censored]..they are expensive... at our dealer, we do NOT give those away..lol
PHARMACY 12-25-2002, 10:05 PM even if that person just bought a vehicle off of you? that's....i don't know i'm just going to drop the subject.
fabtaco 12-25-2002, 10:12 PM thats nothing, i bought my truck used without a spare. then a couple of months later i hit a curb at night and blew tire. oops! after my buddy let me borrow a spare tire, I notified the dealer, and got a new spare tire and jack(which was missing too!)
RevHard6 12-25-2002, 10:24 PM I think he ment owner's manual, not repair manual. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
PHARMACY - Go pick yourself up a Haynes repair manual for $15. Definitely worth it.
JBTRD00 12-25-2002, 10:37 PM LOL!! wel..now thats a bit different! should been more clear...eh, oh well...
Owner's manual: $15
Haynes manual: $15
Toyota repair manual: $300+
If those cheap bastards didn't give you an owner's manual well then they are cheap bastards, those lousy cheap bastards.
My 2RZ takes around 4.8 qts with a filter change, the capacity is 5.2 but all the old oil never comes out.
Is your truck a 4x4 or 4x2? I believe the 4x4 holds more oil. I know the 3.4L PreRunner and 4x4 trucks hold more oil than the 4x2 model. Not shur about the 2.4L/2.7L trucks. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
4WD/PreRunner 3.4L V6s hold more oil than the 2WD, but since the 2RZ is only found in 2WD Tacomas and the 3RZ is only found in 4WD/PreRunner Tacomas, it wouldn't make a difference for the 4-bangers. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
O http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif Thanks NAD I did'nt know that http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
LilWhtTaco 12-27-2002, 01:59 AM i put 5 qts everytime i change my oil... works good for me
TacoGurl 12-27-2002, 12:01 PM me too, it took exactly 5 quarts with the filter change the last time i did mine.
prerunner guy 12-27-2002, 12:22 PM B.S. is so freakin hot.......sorry I just saw the picture in your sig and thought about the fact I haven't met any really good looking girls latey. I usually go cruisin' with my friends and meet a few every weekend but with xmas and finals the week before, and now snowboarding ( I go to board not to pick up on girls - why pay (if you do) so much money and not even get your money's worth) there hasn't been much time for that lately. Maybe this weekend! wait no i am going to bear mtn on saturday http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif damn maybe at night! http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif
Bigphat18s 01-03-2003, 02:12 PM the exact amount to use in all the tacomas is 5.8 qaurts, i work at a toyota dealership so i know, but 5 qaurts is fine
Vracer111 01-03-2003, 02:39 PM I use around 4 quarts when changing the oil with filter...I like keeping the oil level right on the low end mark to lessen the oil pressure when its in the high rev range when autocrossing. As long as the levels are between the min and max that's all that matters. If you don't take it to redline (or a little beyond) often the max level (~5.5 quarts) should do fine.
BTW I usually change the oil out every 4,000 to 5,000 miles.
Toyotech 01-03-2003, 08:45 PM Hey Vracer, noticed your in Houston. Where are you autocrossing at? Just curious. Im from Baytown and would like to check it out.
jimirich 01-03-2003, 09:27 PM My last oil change was five quarts exactly and it measured to the "f" line on the dipstick.(Of course I changed the filter with the oil!!! Absolute sacrelige if you don't!)
Being in Hawaii, I run Mobil1 full synthetic 10w30.
I got the weight recommendation from the owners manual.
What do you guys think about the oil weight with no freezing temperatures and lots of highway driving (80 miles round trip 5x week) at about 70-80-mph.???
dany0022 01-25-2003, 11:13 AM Yes,
It takes exactly 4 1/2-4 3/4 quarts of oil incl. filter. It will be just bellow the FULL mark on the stick. My recomendation - do it yourself !
If you go by the dealer's "expertise", they could put an extra quarter (happened to me), and the oil level would be 1/2 inch above the FULL.
