Revivalist 07-15-2006, 10:58 AM I was trying to choose between all the additives that are out there and I thought I'd see what some of you guys might be using.
I've been using Pro-long every 50,000 miles on my old vehicle. So right now I was thinking about just sticking with that on my truck. Any comments?
sputnik767 07-15-2006, 03:04 PM Additives are BAD. Use a good quality motor oil instead of pouring crap in your engine.
Firdaddy 07-15-2006, 03:19 PM liek he said use good oil and premium gas if youre worried about your fuel system:waytogo:
Revivalist 07-15-2006, 04:58 PM What's bad about them exactly?
sputnik767 07-15-2006, 06:37 PM What's good about them is a better question. Have you ever seen any info substantiating the manufacturer claims...besides the crap that you can drive for half the day with the ac on up a mountain with no oil in the crank after using prolong. Haha, I remember those infomercials from a long time ago. Point is, don't pour anything in there that doesn't belong. I will very rarely use a bit seafoam to clean the crankcase for a week and then change the oil, but i've only done that twice so far, and with synthetic oil coming out clean after 6k miles, I don't plan on doing it again for a long time. Good oil and a good filter is all you need to keep your toyota motor running strong for a very long time. There is in fact a thread about an '01 taco with like 750k original miles on it. It was a delivery vehicle, and you can bet it did not use any additives. If it did, i don't think it would've made it that far because I sincerely believe that they do more harm than good.
Revivalist 07-15-2006, 06:42 PM I wonder if there are any reviews or tests out there to validate or invalidate the claims of additive makers. That would be a nice article to read.
repotaco 07-15-2006, 07:10 PM good reading on BOBISTHEOILGUY for info on additives.

That's the place to go to get edumacated on all thing slippery....well almost all things.;)
You know, it's so confusing now a days. Even Mobil 1 has different types of fully synthetic motor oil, and not knowing what the hell the differences are, last time I did my oil change, I just picked up 6 quarts of the Truck & SUV 5w-30. Oh, then the oil filters with all the junk in it. It's almost impossible to find a high quality filter/oil without additives in it. What's the fracking deal?
BoostError 07-16-2006, 06:41 AM I'll stick to Amsoil in the Taco and Mobil 1 in the Miata. The only "Additive" I ever use is SeaFoam to clean, but that burns right off.
The snake oils are poop.
TwoTacoCombo 06-19-2007, 02:42 PM I highly recommend FPplus (formerly know as FP3000) from www.lubecontrol.com. It is a fuel system cleaner upper cylinder lubricant.
You can read more about it here:

tacoyota 06-19-2007, 03:07 PM seafoam, lucas, chevron techron cleaner.
schleygo 06-20-2007, 06:46 PM Ok, so I put Lucas Oil fuel system cleaner in my gas tank every oil change(5k miles). This will even do more damage than good?
o2man98 06-21-2007, 09:40 AM Just say no to Oil Additives. If the oil needed what is in those products the oil manufacturers would have added it.
VF'N8 06-23-2007, 03:30 AM I might use an octane boost if I was wanting to try and boost a little higher to hit the track. But even then I dont know if it would actually raise your octane enough to allow a better tune, when you consider your trying to raise the octane from 93 to ? with a 12oz bottle diluted into a full 18 gallon tank. So your spending 8$ to mix 1 oz. for every 64 oz. of 93 octane? **** you could probably drink the octane boost and not even get sick if you only had to mix 1 oz. for every gallon of water you drank.
Heet, in the yellow bottle at every gas station in the USA iat a 1.50$ is a much better octane boost than an 8$ octane booster, or is occasionally the same thing.
sputnik767 06-23-2007, 02:36 PM By adding the bottle of octane boost to your tank, you are raising the octane rating from 93 to about 93.7.
