Hey guys, new to the forum. Great place you got here!
I am looking into getting a 4x2 Xcab 5sp 2.4L with very few options, namely SR5 for the A/C, bucket seats, sliding rear window and whatever else may be on the one they locate in addition to those items.
So for my pathetic newbie questions...
What should I expect off of MSRP on this vehicle, I assume more on a 2 vs 4 wheel drive. Do many get down to the invoice price?
Also, can you guys educate me on things like the chassis code, engine code, transmission code, gear ratios, engine/block construction, etc. I dunno if it's just me but the Toyota Tacoma brochure seems very limited in the info they show.
http://www.toyota.com for the MSRP
http://www.edmunds.com for buying info and invoice pricing.
A good rule of thumb is take the MSRP and subtract 8%, that's about what you should pay. I paid about 7.5% under MSRP for mine, about $500 above invoice.
I don't know pages to find newer Toyota engine and tranny specs, but you can always ask Toyota from their website, go to the Owners link, they give out tons of information.

that all depends on how long you want to sit there and haggle...i was there for six hours..... first thing i did was tear the dealer mark up sticker off the window crumpled it up and dropped it in a puddle... then see how low you can go.... granted i was there for six hours, walked out three times, and in the meantime some one backed into the truck i was buying...(orig was going to get a black one) but msrp was 16 and i got out the doo for 12,9 ...... thats 20%..... never believe what they say they payed for it.....theyre car sales men now come on....they arent in the buss. to make you a deal.... dont be over eager to get the truck.... walk out at least once.... if they want to sell a truck they will call you back with a better deal....you picked a great time to buy....winter sales usually suck....end of the year (deffinitely haggle on a 2002 not a 2003)..... plus its the holidays....even car salesmen need extra flow.... how do they get it? by selling a car.... good luck.....and welcome to CT.....we'll steer ya right on all your future mods.... http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Thanks guys, so far so good. I def wanna get an 03 cuz of the anti-locks and the only 02 they have on the lot did not have the option. As far as Toyota, I'm def in the fan club.. I drive a 1985 MR2 5sp and love the lil thing and I plan on keeping it for many years more, at only 165k miles in 18yrs it's just getting started.
As for mods, I'll look for a bit of lift and bigger tires, fender protectors, maybe the short shift kit if you guys say its worth it (i like the short throw of the MR2) I hear the TDR super is discontinued.. any source still have them at a good price? Are there any other brands? also a bed cover (not topper) I will get the liner but would like a rolling cover too.. any ideas? And of course I will need a class II or III hitch.
Well anyway.. gotta hook up w/ the truck first http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

its amazing how much they try to insult you...like you are some kind of idiot... i was trading in an 87 4x ( adding up all the reciepts it was worth over 17 grand ) it looked imaculate even though i beat the hell out of it.... but due to the smog nazi i was forced to either sell or repair ( had a few other maint. probs as well but they didnt need to know about em' trans case, brakes, rings) it has been cheaper in the long run getting a slightly higher payment than all the maintenance....their first offer $500..... thats just like saying here buy my rims and tires and while youre at it just take the truck...i told em to f-off and walked out saying i was going to another dealer who wanted to sell a truck not insult me.... got to the freeway (right around the corner) cell phone rang...told em where i was and where i was headed.....they STARTED to see the light then... there is one thing they hate more than losing a sale.... thats losing it to another stealership..... let em play thier head games.... just play back to win http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
btw i ended up getting 7,500 for trade in....still much higher than bluebook .. sucks how you never get what you put in to em....they ended up selling it to one of the lot attendants....he ended up blowin the motor... http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif
