XR: Supercharger: SOS

Good find... I keep seeing mentions / claims / rumors that TRD has given up on the notion of producing an S/C for the XR. However, all I've seen is hearsay. Anyone know of any _authoritative_ info as to TRD's intentions?...

all i can find on trd's s/c is the car reviews on how a trd s/c will boost the hp to 300 but nothing more as to when or how much. but so far the sos is the only thing i have found close to a s/c for the x

true...vortech is still the better S/C though. Procharger has issues w/ leaking plumbing (weak hoses). The quality of it just sucks.

well just spend a good 45 min on the phone with doug, head eng. at sos. good and bad news. their kit was supposed to be out a long time ago, but they ran into problems. they are working with toyota on this as well. the procharger is a no go. they are going with a pwerdyne sc now. they blew up both a 4.0 and 4.7 with the prochrager on the road test. he said it will run perfect on 5, they ran 8 psi with no problems, and on the high boost test at 10.2 they both blew up. the tundra motor was completey trashed, and the x runner only blew a piston and was fixable. per their standards tho that is not enough margin of error. they are going to be coming out with a low boost 5 psi kit. he said its been on the dyno, 330 at the wheels, and should be strong as a rock. also, they are in the process of making a high boost kit, around 9 psi, but this will include new pistons and rods so you cant blow it up. he didnt give me the numbers for that but he said they were able to pull close to the 500 mark before and it should be very close to that with the high boost kit. the low boost kit should be out very soon. dont expect anything from toyota as well, but thats all i can say.

I was checking out their website and saw they have yet another big brake kit, manufactured by Stop Tech, just like the URD kit. What exactly is the difference between their kit and the URD kit? Anybody?

lol talked to him about that too. it is made by stoptech, with sos branded name on it. it is the exact same size as gadgets, and hate to say it, looks the exact same. he said they buy in huge numbers so they can make them cheap. but, if the motor can only take that 8 psi on the high side, the intercooled sc sounds good to me. they are getting good numbers out of it as well, and he seemed very intelligent, lol starting to get a calling back to my old sc days, i love that sound!

That isn't too bad if everything is bolt on since a FMIC with piping will run just about 2 - 3K sometimes... I'd still perfer a turbo tho =P

turbo would be nice, but if they are going in upward of 500 hp with this, damn that s/c whine gives me a woody.

Man, I can't imagine how expensive this would turn out. $5K for the SC, and the stock brakes suck as it is, so once you start strapping down that much power you'll almost have to get the big brake kit. So add another $2K on top of that. I know this stuff ain't cheap, but sh!t, I can't imagine dropping that much cash into a truck that stays on the street. I'll put that cash into my 86...

no way, put that in your xr and youll fricking have a race truck.....fyi he said the brake kit is insane. he said if you mash on it at 100 youll have red marks from it being such a voilent (fast) stop. hey, id rather be careful on the brakes then have to use two damn feet on them. and yeah its alot, but hey, it will keep my from doing something dumb like getting a new dirt bike or street bike.........time to apply for some credit cards.........

the pistons failed. he said it was at the perfect afr, the pistons are so lightweight the just disonnected from the rod.

Turbo or supercharger it doesn't matter which way you go their both forced induction, so if you hit high boost levels with either your gonna hurt your engine. I think you could safely get away with 7-8# of boost but thats about it.

anyone here any news on their s/c. I have emailed them to get an update for the XR but no word

Welcome to CT, yes they were coming out with a supercharger or whats called a "pro charger" but they to have blown there engine from what I have heard just like every attemped that TRD has made. Sorry bro to break it to you just keep saving and go turbo because there will not be a supercharger soon

i talked to a mechanic buddy of mine about the charger, he says that the reason they probably blew the engine is because of the stock valves. now i'm sure if you do a cvalve upgrade it can easily do the 379 or whatever, i know the pistons can handle it.

LOL I think it's just SOS, I heard that they didn't use any real type of fuel managment or piggey back comp.

They are NOT selling that thing cheap at all. It has better brakes, wheels, and its lowered with some graphics. Big deal. I'd rather just get a brand new one and not have to worry about having problems with the entire drivetrain in the future. As someone has already said, the motor was most likely tortured from the testing of the PROCHARGER and it obviously was not a success, otherwise the truck wouldn't be for sale. So basically, what you get for that ridiculous price, is an X-Runner that looks good, but is no faster than mine and rides like crap with the 19" wheels and suspension. Oh yeah, and it has a "low" 4,000 DYNO-MILES.

When I said cheap I didnt mean REALLLLY INEXPENSIVE...I paid 25,000 for my X and it was stock. This one has thousands of dollars of mods and theyre selling it for 26000. I never said that it wouldnt have any problems in the future...in fact I do believe it will have problems.

i wouldnt mind taking those expensive ass ugly wheels....

well i just got a e-mail from SOS saying that they are no longer going to put out a supercharger they are buying 2 tundras and only putting out the v8 supercharger..........AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

Strange, I read on their website that they were going to work on the S/Cd X now. They just finished the S/Cd Tundra (4K plus price tag).

that doesnt make any sense cause they already have the v8 charger out.

Jon, if I remember correctly we had a discussion a long time ago about SOS being full of crap. This doesn't surprise me any.

The drop kit is a joke....... I can by that crap at pepboys.....
I'll get some altezza's and say that it drastically improves braking.....

actually, you cant get it at pep boys. i dont know of anyone else that used what they do to drop anything. all those 4x4 people could use this too. so what the hell are you talking about? yeah, you can get blocks their, but thats it
