Tire advice (not the same old tire problem)

Now that spring is right around the corner and I can take off my winter tires in another month or so, I'm giving some thought to dumping the OE Bridgestones and replacing them with something else altogether. I've put only about 3K miles on the RE050s, so I could probably get a few hundred for them on eBay, and wouldn't have to screw with Bridgestone if/when The Crack eventually appears. Plus, my firm's major client is Michelin, and I like to be loyal to the people who are ultimately paying for my truck.

So if I stay within the Michelin family, my choices in dry-weather performance tires come down to the Pilot Sport, Pilot Sport A/S or BFG g-Force T/A KDW. All seem to have pretty favorable consumer reviews on Tire Rack, so I'm wondering if anyone here has first-hand experience with any of these tires, either on an XR or other vehicle. I'm not planning to do any autocrossing, but we have plenty of twisty mountain roads nearby. All-season grip isn't really a concern, either, since I already have Pilot Alpins for winter. Any opinions?

Get those POS Bridgestones off as fast as you can. But keep them cuz when and if they have a recall they will give you anything you want

You need to get BFG G-Force KDW. I had those on my RX8 and they are beautiful tires that work dreams. You wont be dissappointed with them. :headbang:

Yes, get the BFG kdw g-force, it is Michelin family!

I just mounted mine on ASA jh3 wheels and cannot wait until the snow leaves so I can start breaking the new tires in...

On the Tire Rack site, a couple of the consumer comments about the g-Force KDW mentioned the tires' excessive road noise. Can you confirm whether that's really an issue, or are the reviewers on Tire Rack just overly sensitive? (Mind you, I'm turning 46 in June so I'm probably half deaf already....)

Well, BFG was out of stock on the KDW's when I got around to ordering tires, so I went with the Michelin Pilot Sports instead.

These are definitely a step up from the OEM Bridgestones. The sidewalls of the Pilots are noticeably less stiff than the Potenzas, and the ride quality is certainly better. The Pilots are also about 5 pounds lighter per tire, so braking, acceleration and suspension compliance should be better as well. The noise level is pretty reasonable.

I've only put about 100 miles on the Michelins so far and haven't pushed them too hard yet, but I've taken a few fast corners and they have plenty of stick. I'll learn more about them this weekend, as my X will be a support vehicle for a motorcycle event at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, so I'll probably get in a few hot laps if I'm lucky.

For sure the Pilot Sports look a lot meaner than the Potenzas:
