Bogss 01-24-2006, 05:19 PM Anybody experiencing a noisy or squeaking clutch pedal. I have mine since it reached around 8000 miles. i went to the dealer and one of the personnel there is having the same problem he said its just a bad design. Basically its plastic to plastic rubbing thats why it squeaks if so have you heard any fix or maybe a recall
Thanks
PekingDuc 01-24-2006, 05:24 PM My clutch pedal squeaks too. It goes away after spraying alot of lube but then comes back. Does anyone know where exactly we should be spraying if its just plastic rubbing on plastic? Mysteriously, it only started squeaking after doing the clutch pedal mod...
biebs96 01-24-2006, 05:25 PM welcome to CT!!!
fill out your profile so we know what kind of taco.
u can lube the clutch pedal underneith where it goes into the tranny, that will stop the most common squeak.

IMO that clutch pedal mod seems like it puts undo pressure on the clutch spring, possibly causing premature wear and therefore noise.
BSP 05 X- Runner 01-24-2006, 05:28 PM Pivot pin... Take to the stealership they will fix it for free
PekingDuc 01-24-2006, 05:28 PM Are you referring to the pedal height mod or the plunger portion that adjusts the engagement point? I was thinking of going back to stock for the plunger to see if the squeaking goes away.

i agree, i think the petal has to have that lil play. i bet that mod dosent make muce of a difference when shifting any way
cardinaltaco 01-24-2006, 05:44 PM the squeking you are refering to is exactly what the dealership said, a ****y design, basically its the bushings that are right behind the firewall in the engine bay, all they are...are little plastic sleeves over the clutch shat, where it rotates/pivots...dont bother doing all the work to replace them, or have the dealer do it because in like 5000 miles, it will come right back.....one of things that annoys me about the taco, seems like toyota could have put some better bushings or somehting on there
BSP 05 X- Runner 01-24-2006, 05:46 PM Mine started after 1000 miles and ive got 11000 now and not a sound
futureconcept 01-24-2006, 05:58 PM I’ve had mine in 3 times for the same problem, 1st time they lubed it a week later same problem 2nd time the replace the master cylinder work good for about a month, the noise is back 3rd time the don’t know what to do next.
Green Eyed Devil 01-24-2006, 06:48 PM YUP. yet another noise comin from the X. Mine started at 3000miles. Oh I've got a list of stuff I need to talk to the dealership about...squeaks and clanks. *sigh*
00yota4x4 01-24-2006, 06:52 PM My clutch started making noise at about 4000miles...I used white lith grease on it
It went away for a few months..came back for a few days. and its been silent ever since.
PekingDuc 01-24-2006, 06:56 PM Can you tell us where exactly you put the lith grease?

ALL over...I gave the whole pedal assembly a nice coating of it
BlueRunner954 01-25-2006, 09:24 PM I HAVE THE SOLUTION! I'm sorry that I never told anyone but I fixed mine about 4 months ago and haven't had a problem since. The only thing you need is some motor oil. First thing you do is locate that rod that's attatched to the clutch pedal. When you push the clutch down, that plastic rod goes into what looks like a cylinder that is kinda bowl shaped on top. Wipe ALL grease off and just drop a capfull of 5w30 into that bowl shaped thing and then wipe some oil on that plastic rod that goes into it. You might have to do it twice because mine went away for 3 days them came back. After I did it the second time, it NEVER came back. Remember to put a plastic bag on the floormat and capret because it WILL get messy.
Zigen 01-26-2006, 04:27 AM Wow, all I did was spray some lith grease up in there... Then grabbed some grease and lubed that bad boy up! It has not came back ever since.. Now I did massage the spring and rod with the lube.. No more squeaaaaakkkk.. BTW, the dealer did ish.. I ended up re-lubing myself...
So I've been sitting around thinking of ways to fix the squeak in the clutch pedal besides having a new arm machined out of aluminum and putting bearings at the pivot point...
I've come up with two options so far:
1. Lube up the pivot point with Graphite.. should work better/longer than insert type of grease here...
2. Remove the OEM clutch and drill out the pivot point a bit and put some kind of bushing (or bearings if possible) in there...
Does anyone (Gadget or other taco Guru's) have or know where I can find a pic. of the clutch assembly in an exploded view or some schematics (sp?)...
Thanks in advance!
00yota4x4 02-18-2006, 03:30 PM i have these 2 pics on my Webpage

Thanks Yota that's what I was looking for...
Has anyone else tried graphite yet??
Xrunner 02-20-2006, 10:53 AM Yeah, I used the spray graphite about 6 months ago and the squeak has never came back.
Scoopt01 02-24-2006, 01:00 PM I have a 1999 base model 2wd inline 4cylinder & Popular Mechanics says that replacing oem part #55107-04010 (pedal bracket) will stop the squeak in that model. I have researched what the part costs (about $60), but don't know where the part goes or how to replace as a do it yourself deal (cuz i don't want to take it to the "stealership". Anyway, has anyone had any luck with replacing this part / stopping the squeak - I would appreciate the advice on how to do / how difficult for diy project - Thanks !
sputnik767 02-24-2006, 01:27 PM There have been posts made that detailed how to convert the pedal from the torsion spring setup that you have on yours to the regular spring that was apparently on the pretacos and on my '03. You are experiencing the clutch pedal bushing problem that I think every pre '03 taco is afflicted with. Ask this in a separate post in the maintanance forum, and you'll get more responses.
