Gamzek 01-04-2006, 08:15 PM Hey guys, my roommates X-runner starts humming/whistling at about 65 miles an hour. It sounds like some air sneaking through a small area( maybe the hood scoop? ) or maybe some thing hitting its harmonic frequency ( antenae or wipers maybe? ). Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or maybe have a fix? It is really loud.
Enola Gaia 01-04-2006, 08:18 PM There have been reports of a problem with wind noise resulting from a defect with the windshield molding. Check that first....
Gamzek 01-04-2006, 08:34 PM thank you sir, takin it to the dealership tommorow.

Didnt know that... imma have to listen real close next time on the freeway
Enola Gaia 01-04-2006, 10:51 PM Some have said it's got too much 'free play' the way it's made, while others have claimed it's improperly sealed or glued down. In the first year of production, I remember some claims that there may have been a gap...
BSP 05 X- Runner 01-04-2006, 10:56 PM Wow it started at 65, My X didn't make sound till I hit 105 :waytogo:

i've heard some silicone sealant around the windshield seal does the trick quite nicely. i'm too lazy to call the dealer at the moment to get mine fixed but tell us how it goes
Xacto 01-05-2006, 12:30 AM the only whistling i hear is from the air intake when it's at about 5000 rpms :waytogo:
nxrunner 01-09-2006, 09:19 PM mine does it only in a hard cross wind. the local dealer cant seem to figure it out; but that doesnt surprise me.:runaway:
cseger1 01-10-2006, 06:10 PM Mine makes a buzzing sound. At 90 MPH. If I push against the glass right under the rearview mirror very lightly it stops. I don't often go 90 so its no problem.
Red X 01-10-2006, 09:30 PM Yep. Been to the dealer twice on this one and it's still not fixed. Manager thought the windshield wasn't sealed properly, so he called in a glass guy to re-seal it; only he screwed up, and the seal didn't hold. So I had it re-sealed again. The second time they had the windshield out, they removed a pair of plastic clips from the mounting area that should have been removed by the factory right before they put in the glass.
The noise still comes in loud and clear at 70 mph in a head-wind, 90+ on a still day. It seems to be comming from someware in the lower-middle part of the windshield. I've kind of given up on the dealer finding this problem:brickknoc , and I'm going to take a stab at finding the cause next time I have a windy day off. By carefully sealing off suspected areas one at a time with tape, the cause may show itself. for now, I've been working 12 hour days, so I must put up with this anoyance. But, if I do manage to find the little !#$%#@% that's causing it, I'll be sure to post back here; and I'll check back in to see if anyone has beaten me to the solution.
Roadhog56 01-21-2006, 08:59 PM I also have the same problem, at 70 mph headwind. A dealer in Oklahoma told me the windshield needs to be resealed. So, I brought that information back to my dealer , Freeman Toyota,in Ft Worth, and they told me they can't find the problem and I went ballastic. He couldn't explain that they can't find the problem driving at normal driving condition (go figure). So after raising a little h$@l they are going to look again. I guess that they don't take the word of another dealer that troubleshot the problem, verse finding the effortless way. Sorry as you can tell I pi$$ at this place, they haven't been able to fix nothing yet!!!!!!
