LCE 2rz/3rz Header

Here I go again with another LCE group buy!
This group buy is for LC Engineering's 2rz/3rz stainless steel header.

Info on 2rz header>> Click This Sucka! (http://209.250.27.45/m1webgear/ProductDetails.aspx?PartID=1041048&PartRevisionID= )
Info on 3rz header>> Click This Too Sucka! (http://209.250.27.45/m1webgear/ProductDetails.aspx?PartID=1041054&PartRevisionID= )

Header price depends on how many people we get, so even if your just a little bit interested then post it. I'll give this a few weeks before I submit the total number of people interested. From there LCE will come back with a price based on the number of people we have.
Also, be aware this header is for single cat exhaust systems. Those with two cats will have to do some modification.

Count me in if we get more people for the 2rz header. This should be a group buy for the the header, high flow cat, and cat back exhaust system. More peple would probably be more interested.

I just called LCE and they said they're header came with a CARB number so it's 50 state legal and will pass smog. Which is important to me cause I live in CA., the land of strict smog laws.

Does anyone have any specs on the header? Like collector size compared to stock, size of the primaries etc.

MountainBiker

Yes, legal in 50 states, but won't work with the dual cat system on new models. Not sure how you would make it fit if you do have the dual cats.

Simple. The first cat is removed. That's why their website says: "NOTE: Not legal for California-Dual Catalytic Converter applications"

way interested in a 3rz, but wouldn't shipping be wicked expensive if they have to mail it to you in hawaii then you have to mail it to the mainland?

ToRriD
06-08-2005, 12:01 AM
not too sure what u mean, but lce will ship it directly to those people in the group buy.
***just to clarify how this works; once i get a list of commited people for this group buy, i'll send it to lce. then each of those people on the list will have to call lce for payment and shipping info. lce will then ship out the header to each person.***

hey tred, and are you willing to weld and go through the whole bull---- over the headers?

I was trying to make up my mind, but I think I'm not going to get it this time. I've had the thought of going Turbo by 2007, and If I do, the LCE headers would be a waste, and a setback. Especially the fact that it's not a direct bolt-on for me, even though it's just the matter of shortening the pipe on the second cat, I don't think it'll be worth it for me.

Because people dont know any better. I bought headers, and realized they dont do sh!t. But I didnt know any better. Now I do, so I am sharing my experience. Hell, I spent more time and money than I care to admit on a turbo kit, and at the 6lbs of boost Im running right now, its also not worth it, but at least I can do something about it... unlike headers...

I was gonna ask this, from what I gather on the site the header is 296 reg price and I'm beliving that it includes free ground shipping. So if we pay 237 PLUS shipping, it's gonna be like 30 bucks to ship. That's not much of savings there. Sure it's a bit, but they're really not cutting you much of a deal that way. If that's the case then I suggest you bargain w/ them for the price of 237 including shipping.

ToRriD
06-24-2005, 10:18 PM
their listed price does not includes shipping. i pulled this from their shipping page:

All shipping and handling costs are calculated separately by LCE and are not included in the price of the parts purchased either by telephone or internet sale. Because of the numerous products, varying weights, different box sizes and shipping methods available, it is almost impossible to show the customers freight charges during "checkout."

so we're still getting a pretty good deal. its about a 20% discount with this group buy.

ChrisTaco
06-24-2005, 10:27 PM

it will be an issue, but nothing severe.
because the header is longer than the stock exhaust manifold, it will extend past the flange to the first cat. this will require the exhaust system to be shortened or relocated, which i'm sure can be done at your local exhaust shop.

If it is that simple, and if I'll be able to keep my truck CA smog legal, I may do this. I think I'll have to talk to LCE direct, since they state in the installation sheet:

NOTE: Not legal for California-Dual Catalytic Converter applications

But they also say:
Header Kit - 2RZ Street Header Kit - 2WD (95-03) 50 State Legal

So which one is it? http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

On another note, is the Downey Header mentioned by 5luggin better, worse or the same quality/performance as the LCE Header?

The first cat, closer to the engine is going to be removed when you install the LCE header. At the same time, you need to take it to an exhaust shop to have the second cat moved rearwards. It is not legal for California Dual CC applications because you'll only have one cat, unless if you have an exhaust shop squeeze two cats in the tight space (which I don't even think there's enough room).

Just got off the phone with LCE, and got some info on the header with dual cat systems.

The header is not necessarily illegal with dual cat systems, even in California, just not a bolt on with the two cat system. The header does have the C.A.R.B. approval stamped into it. As far as fitment, look at where the pipe flange is at the back end of the first cat, that is "about" where the end of the LCE header will be.
FSM drawing showing the cats, 1st cat is on the left. (http://65.200.1.6/FSM/Repair_Manual/03tacoma/ec2rzfe3/twccsy/comp.pdf)

Sounded like if you want to ditch the first cat, you might still need some modification to get it to bolt on to the front of the pipe that holds the second cat; suppose I should've asked for more clarification here. If only one cat is needed in your state, then this may be the way to go.

In order to keep the two cat system, you (or a muffler shop) will need to fab things up so that the front of the first cat can mate with the back of the header, and then connect to the 2nd cat, and then probably fab new hangers and the rest of the exhaust system, since everything will be pushed backwards a bit.

I'm gonna talk to a muffler shop to get an estimate of what this will cost me.

For anyone wondering if it will fit with two Cats and be Cali smog legal, "hytenor" states in this TTORA thread (http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3969) that he got the front cat moved back for $20. That seems pretty cheap, but at least he claims it can be done.

MountainBiker

And in that same TTORA thread, "mangelo" had a link to pictures of his LCE header install (http://community.webshots.com/album/151421382CgHNpz). It appears that he just removed the cats, but by the photos it does look like it wouldn't be to difficult for an exhaust shop to move the front cat backwards and weld a flange onto the front of the front cat.

2 catbacks?? You mean you have a Y pipe after the cats, and you have dual exhaust exits? Catback refers to the piping and muffler, including the tailpipe AFTER the cat(s).

Even if you have a dual exhuast system, you'd go through the same stuff everyone else would to make it fit. Especially if you only go with one cat, nothing is going to change after the cat, as adjustment can be made before the catback. The catback is unaffected, unless if fitting becomes an issue to where you need to move the catback forward or rearward. And EVEN THEN, it should be just as easy to add or remove piping after the cat and before the mufflers.

No you will not remove any cats. On your truck there are two cats one in front of the other. They Make the exhaust pipe go to far forward to meet up with the header . By having a muffler shop modify the ehxaust so the first cat is further back, you can hook up the header to the exhaust pipe.

This is very simple for any muffler shop to do. Buy the header.

We are good to go! I've just sent the list to LCE of all the people who will be buying a header with this group buy.

You each now need to call LCE and pay for the header, which will be $237.22 not including shipping. You can talk to Jay @ LCE since he's the one I've been dealing with. Specify which header you want (2RZ or 3RZ) and confirm your address I sent them. They probably won't ship out any headers until everybody calls and pays, so the sooner the better. This is their contact info from their site: 1-877-505-2501, Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm MST

Just do a high flow cat, I have a magnaflow and it made a nice lil difference, just dump your first cat though, you don't need it.

High flows are a waste of money, just keep the stock cats

Only reason I went to a high flow is cuz of the hole I put in my OEM one from a damn speed bump. Plus the high flow was cheaper than the OEM. I dunno Al, high flow do make a bit of difference though.

I purchased a high flow cat with my header from LCE. I needed to replace the stock one cause it had a crack in it and was giving a CEL. A stock one is more expensive. The local toyota dealership was charging me $400 for a new one. The LCE cat is also a direct bolt on, so no need taking it to a muffler shop and having it welded.

yeah, their regular sales e-mail is messed up. i got my e-mail returned when i tried sending the gb list. you can try jay@lcengineering.com or better yet call'em. they should be able to work something out for ya. if you read the earlier post from mountainbiker, his header was sent to norcal for $20.

The CARB EO# should be stamped on the header

I'd like to know what you guys opinions are of these headers? I'm trying to get in touch with Jay as I type and I'm not sure what I should do about the cats etc. One day I plan to get a complete new exhaust system, high-flow cat, magnaflow catback, etc.

Thanks.

Well mine finally got here this morning. I just wish I could say the same for the rest of my [censored]. I ordered a new cat and 6" S.S. magnaflow 10 days before the group buy ended and it's still not here. FIrst they said that It was because I hadn;t responded to an email about verifying the cat. Well I never replied becuase they never sent it. I "verified" it over the phone 2 days before LCE shippied the header and still no cat/muffler. I'm going to call Performance Peddler tomorrow If they haven't sent it I'm going elsewhere. Probably should have got it all from LCE but hind site is always 20/20 right.

yo guys, would it be fine to just drive w/ the headers to the muffler shop so they can move the pipe back??? can this harm anything?

SD TACO
07-13-2005, 08:47 PM
