I have been thinking about leaving the X completely stock. I am affraid to start making modifications. I know once I start I will never be able to stop.

Of course the reality is quite different...

Calm yourself, Gadget... Take a deep breath... Now look at the X-Runner... See its beauty... See its power.... Visualize it flying... Visualize its future... Visualize its possibilities... You feel as if you're getting sleepy, but you're somehow energized... You feel yourself floating as you reach for a wrench....

Totally. That's the first thing I'd look for. And with reverse in a different position. When I was driving the XR, I kept wondering if I was going to put it into reverse and not 1st.

I love the shifter on the 350Z. Push down for reverse.

You have to do something, I'm tired of sinking money into vechicles that aren't fast. BTW I don't have my X-Runner yet, scraping up the last 3g's and I'll have mine.

If you can "accidentally" shift into reverse then your tranny might be in trouble long before you're going to run into reverse... It takes a bit of effort to get past 1st into reverse...

Short shifter will be nice, but I like how smooth it is now... Maybe I'll change my mind when I start to drive hard...

After driving the 6-speed, I think it's virtually impossible for any non-idiot to get it into reverse accidentally. It requires a strong throw to the side against a spring, and then it beeps so you know you're in reverse.

Then again... there are some amazingly stupid people out there!!!

That would also explain the Dodge http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/funnyup.gif

I have noticed on my tacoma (96) that there is a 'lock' on reverse when you shift out of 5th. I suppose this is to keep you from accidentally shifting into reverse. Maybe the X has this feature also?

Actually most cars have the gate shut iirc for reverse over a certian speed... I personally never tested this, but lets just put it this way... Most cars have such bad syncros on R, it won't go in anyways even if you tried...

But I mean to even get it into the groove past 1st is a bit of work... You actually feel emense tug from the shfiter which is not normal to a 1st gear shift...

The only way I see someone come even close to shifting or try to shift into R is from a 3 > 1 heel toe shift... With 2 > 1, you can just ride the left side, but with 3 > 1, someone might over swing it... Still I find it highly unlikely...

I actually worry about shifting into 1st while I want to go R more...
