4R and XR do they have the same motor?

I read from CR that the motor V6 installed in the 4R is not reliable compare to V8 4R. Let me hear from the Xperts.......thanks!!!!

the 4.0 v6 in the 4-runner is also in the x-runner and all other v6 tacoma's...
