Okay, the X-Runners have been out long enough now. Someone, go to the track, run a few, and let's get this over with. No more speculating, reading about what they have potential to do. Let's see it first hand.

I think the X-Runner is an amazing truck, so let's see what it can do. And a video would be even better. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

he ran a 15.5. i will be going to the track soon as my local ones opens again, i think its jan 9th. i marked off a 1.4 by my house, and had my buddy stop watch it. (yes i know its not accurate, it was more to practice launches) but it was a consistant high 14 when i launched nice.

I think you guys are....um......missing the point of the X-Runner..it wasn't built like the SRT-4 was to just blast down a 1/4 mile and get the best time, it was built for the corners, which is why the Z was the benchmark, they didn't try to match the 0-60 or top speed anything like that..it's a car about cornering. Unless you'te talking about that kind of track :P

Apparently 1/4 is the only race many will ever take it to http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif So it dosen't matter what they built the X for http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

truth of the matter is, 1/4 is what you will run into day to day. line up next to a nice car, and launch. it might do well in turns ect, but kuass is right, 1/4 is what most people judge by, since its possible for everyone to do it cheaply. and ca slim, im not sure if your being an ass or what, but you seem to get a kick out of arguing pretty much everything i say. i could care less if you think im full of it, im just out to have fun like the rest of us. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dude what part of the country you in? Plan on doing any tracks in Ca.? Since Infinion raceway will be in GT4 I might call that my home track... It'll be better than Leguna Seca because there's probably less events held there...

I got Leguna Seca down from GT3, however in real life the two slow turns can mean big trouble, also there seems to be a bump in the front straight that scares me since the truck has no spoiler... Anyways, hope to see you on the track...

I'm in socal, I usually drive at buttonwillow raceway, but I've been to willow springs raceway, irwindale speedway, and california speedway.

They're call fun tracks, but buttonwillow is awesome--willow springs is an awesome raceway park-- and streets of willow is an awesome track http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I usually attend track days with my ae86, but I think I'm going to have to take this truck, I've done my fair share of wearing out the tires on the streets and on the occasional canyon run....time for the track >: )

Buttonwillow might be a spot to hit up... That was a place on my list to visit because Motor Trend does a few tests there... Just gotta run that track myself to see how it looks like http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

hmm well if you've never been in a stock SR before, your superior handling might not be all hyped up as it may be... my s-runner in stock form took corners better most cars... alot of s-runner owners will attest to that... http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Check the events section in jan/feb, I'm going to be putting on a track day at buttonwillow and I'd love to have some tacomas come up to diversify the crowd http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif pm me or email me ( colin@shift-lock.net ) for details and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions for you http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

having driven a XR today, and at a very spirited pace i might add, i tend to agree.
like i have said a hundred times, upgrade the tires on the SR from those crappy RE910's, and there will be a lot of suprised XR owners.
physics works. the weight of the XR really hurt the nimbleness.
also... the owner of the XR and i had a second gear... punchout... not really a race. he did not leave me. the XR was slightly faster, but just inches throughout second gear. and yes, my SR is bone stock.

do you really think you can take a 350Z on a race course with an experienced driver ? personally, i know the XR cannot.
sure, you can claim to equal the 350Z in lateral acceleration, but i'll tell you right now, as someone who has been on the track in a 350Z, you will never out brake, turn-in, or exit as well as the Z... plus, they are faster down the straght.
as far as Buttonwillow or Willow Springs... i'll go if there are no national events scheduled at that time. i have about 1000 race laps on both tracks in Shifter Karts and race cars. i *may* bring the SR, but there may be a possibility that i'll own a Formula Atlantic by then.

i know that feeling http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you pit an experienced driver in an XR vs. a inexperienced driver in a Z I'm thinking you'll see good results. I was able to keep up with a friend of mine who drives a modded Z, given he's only been to one track day and his experience is limited to the streets for the most part, it's pretty cool that a TRUCK can keep up with a car like that!

If this truck can out run the Z, it'll be priced ~29K... That said, I'd say it runs far more than the 23K price tag suggests... The huge turn off for me about the Z is that the same engine is in most of the Nissan line up that can house the motor... That really sets the Z's uniqueness (not even a word) back a little...

Still, anything with some power, RWD, it'll be fun to drive...

well... the huge turn off for me about the 350Z, is it's failure to be competitive in all the classes it races in. there is a lot of national SCCA guys with 350Z's for sale. it simply gets ate up by the Honda S2000.
the only truck that i know of that is competitive at the national level, is Matt Leicesters Solo 2 Toyota. here it is:
http://members.cox.net/daveds50/car/matt.jpg
however, that does not mean we cant have fun with our trucks...
BTW, it does not have to be RWD to be fun... drive my FWD race car, and you will see that it's just as tail happy as any RWD. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

well... i found a Formula Atlantic for $38K, but it's a little trashed... may end up with a good Formula Mazda for about half the price.

Dave,

It' was about 3k a weekend for a formula mazda when I worked for world speed. The cost may have gone up slightly since then with the formula mazda body types that came out this year. A good formula atlantic will set you back twice that a weekend and you still will not have the support that team green or some of the others have out there. Make a name for yourself in formula mazda keep as many records as possible regaurding your experience, championships etc and then approach an exsisting atlantic team for a ride. There's also the barber dodge challenge (if it's still going) A lot of atlantic drivers found rides doing that. Good luck let me know what happens Iv'e been keeping tabs. My suspension should be done soon I'm down for infineon or Laguna seca after that.

yup... i am aware of what the cost is. i've had quite a few race weekends that i've spent that much. in fact, my tire budget alone for 2000-2001 was about $14K annual. ( not including the car or anything else )

not to worry about me getting picked up for a team... i've been to Skip Barber advanced school, ( for free ) and actually was able to leave my instructor by 16 seconds on the final lapping session. ( about 10 laps )

however, because of my age.... ok... i'll say it... im 44. no team would want me, and i dont care anyway.
but, the 19 year old kid ( Matt Jaskol ) that went with me, is now driving the Formula BMW series, and doing real well.

im not looking for a ride, or fame or fortune... just looking to have fun in my semi-retirement. the Formula Atlantic is faster than my 250 kart, but the Formula Mazda is slightly slower.

blame Paul Tracy and Patrick Carpentier for getting me to do this... http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i've been running with them at shifter kart practices.

if we can put together a Laguna Seca meet, im there. thats my favorite track that i've raced on. it's a wild ride !

now... back to the topic. who has run a 1/4th mile in their XR ? lets see numbers.

I planned on taking my XR to Leguna Seca... That was the whole point behind buying this truck... I wanted to toss something other than a car around and have the ability to haul stuff on the off days...

The corkscrew and the last turn was the biggest concern since I think you might have to respect it more than normal due to the long wheel base... The last turn I'm not too comfy about since I've never been a fan of shifting back into 1st gear, but since I've never driven on the track itself, it's just paranoia...

Turn 4 (the long sweeping turn left) is another part I don't like much because it's a late apex and slight braking... I always feel better entering a turn with full threshold braking with the weight in the front wheels... (Maybe in a truck I might think in a new way?)

Still, Skip Barber is a goal of mine, however my funds wouldn't allow me to enroll http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I want to have fun most off, but want to do it proper... I would kill for a free enrollment http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
