I've been holding out on buying a new car for 2 years because I totaled my WRX when I had it last... Insurance was a huge factor in what car I can get since I'm going to have to take that out of my payments...
Right now from 21st Centruy I'm quoted for $980 ish or 6 months with 1K deductable... Otherwise clean driving record... My sister who is younger than me is still on my policy and my 90 LS Integra also... I can't have the truck as my 2nd vehicle since there are 2 names on the policy, or 2 covered drivers I should say...
So yeah, my Insruance rates are through the roof http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I was wondering what the other guys are paying or what you might pay for those that actually gotten a quote...

I think this means you're under your dad's policy and you're just a listed driver...
If you gone out there and got a policy on your own with your name on the insurance card... That sould bump it up significantly...
I'm 23 and no points on record cept the accident... I suspect in a year (accidents drop off after 3 in Cali I think...) my rates should be back to standard and when I hit 25 I should be able to get my best rates...
S-Runner rates sound bomb tho!!

yes i on my dad policy, but i am listen as a primary driver, so i dont think it would be too far off. when i had my truck and my prelude, i had my own insurance through the same guy, and it was still wayyy cheap.

Well try asking if you weren't on your dad's policy how much would it cost http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
It is a HUGE difference when someone with 16 year driving experience (I'm assuming more for your dad but for fact he's with the agent for 16 years) is insuring a car / truck with someone listed as a dirver on the policy vs someone who's 19 and male driving the same vehicle and getting insurance by themselves... I can tell you for fact that in where I live, liability for a new driver (first 3 years of license) will cost 1K / year just about... If you're telling me you can be close to that with a LOW LOW LOW deductable of $200 then that makes no sense http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Having more than one vehicle often times lead to savings within a certian company... When I was 21, and I bought my WRX, I was 2K and change to insure my car with 1K deductable... This is way cheaper than anywhere else I've looked...
Maybe your geographic is a lot better than mine, but still $1,200 / year fully insured with $200 deductable is impossible for me to get even with another 10 years behind the wheel I suspect...
I am curious as how much you would pay tho, if you don't mind the trouble to just ask your agent to see the difference... http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Also what company is it that this agent is working for and did you ever use them for claims and how did that go?
21st fully paid me back minus deductable when I totaled my WRX and NO HASSLE at all... I got my check and everything done in less than a month (mostly due to mailing this and that back)...
Edit: Oops didn't read correctly that your parents had the same insurance guy SINCE they're 16... I thoguht it was 16 years LOL... Daym thats a long time!!! :wow;

its with allstate to start with, and yes we have had cars stolen, and its been 100 percent hassle free. we also use them for house insurance, and they have been more than generous with natural disaters ie earthquakes. i talked to my mom, she said that it would be about 1100 with out her, and with out our insurance rep, at least double that. we get a huge discount for multi insurance, and huge one for long term members, not to mention he knows all the tricks to drop it lower. having a b average saved me around 100 i think. the rates are crazy, i was lucky enough to walk into a situation that is great for me. any other questions feel free to ask.

Everyone do your homework before you jump to conclusions...
If you talk to your insurance company at all, you'll know that Toyota is the party that is lagging the appropriate information needed for insurance companies to properly adjust their pricing... I think they call it the "arbitration data" or something in that ballpark...
Mine is listed as a 2005 Tacoma...
My insurance company insisted that I know my rates MIGHT change, no signs of it being good or bad... Once Toyota sends out the information, it should be adjusted accordingly for everyone...

Its also very dependent on where you live, how old you are, married or single, tickets blah blah blah. Being from Houston its really high, I moved to Austin for awhile and it dropped a ton. In Houston its horrible compared to most places so I think the only way to find out would be getting qoutes for yourself in your area. Progressive seems pretty straight forward if you want to do it online and they honor the qoute for awhile after you get it. Good luck

If you are eligible, I would call USAA. I had great news the day that I called them and found out they were much cheaper and offered more coverage than GEICO (coverage at the time). I was paying GEICO well over 250/month for nothing. I have never had a ticket or accident and over the age of 25. They couldnt explain why, but I found out why. There are two GEICO companies. One is GEICO indeminity (which you are paying to that, they consider you high risk, but won't tell you.) and the other is GEICO. You have to earn the right to get into that "special club". They also lied to me and said they don't check your credit history or score to determine rates. Funny thing is, I ran my credit report and there they were.
I switched over to USAA and my coverage doubled and I paid $120/month for two new cars on full coverage. One was a 2001 F150 XLT Lariat and the other was a 2001 Toyota Solara. With GEICO, I had a 1996 toyota tacoma 4x4 when I was single and paying the above rates. I jumped to USAA with the tacoma shortly, then bought the F150. Oh, by the way, USAA DOES NOT check your credit history. I verified that.
Then, I got married. :doah: My rates went up $10/month to add her and the Solara.
No kidding. I called GEICO and told them that I had great news. I saved a bunch of money by cancelling with them and going with USAA. The lady wasn't amused as much as I was. She did want to know what they could do to keep me as a customer. I told her that her company should start practicing honesty with their customers in regards with what risk group they are under and explain the high rates. My parents had GEICO for many years when it was only open to Gov't employees. Rates were really low then. When they opened to the general public, they became expensive and dishonest. My parents have since dropped GEICO as well and went to USAA.
Ok, I have rambled enough about GEICO. Unless, you are a horrible driver with a horrible record, the rates shouldnt be different. They usually determine rates on how expensive it is to replace parts or the whole vehicle. The engine size or use of vehicle may play a part as well.

oh yeah. and location plays a big part in the rate. I was told that the Seattle area is considered worse than Los Angeles and San Diego (where GEICO HQ is) when it comes to congestion and accidents.
I was recently in Cedar Rapids, IA to catch a flight to Chicago back to Seattle. I got in a really bad accident in December '03 on some highway they call the "bermuda triangle" of Iowa (hwy 8?). Sound familiar? I stayed in a hotel next to the Buckeye campus. Isn't that Iowa City? Crazy weather back there! One minute, it is 40 degrees, then the next it is 8. Ouch!

Eh Marc,
I have USAA too and although I didn't previously have Tacoma before the X, I do pay about $200/year more for the XR than the 01 Tundra 4WD. I think it was mostly because its newer, not because it's "sportier". I think insurance companies bundle the XR into the usual Tacoma category out of ignorance so the rates will probably be the same between an '05 Pre-runner and a XR. But not sure.

Anyone deal with Esurance.com?
I had Esurance for a couple of years. I had no problems, but then again I had no claims either. They were actually less expensive than USAA at the time. Once I got my X-Runner (a year ago), I switched to USAA because it was cheaper to insure two vehicles with USAA. I had no trouble with Esurance and was always able to get them on the phone, something I worried about being a discount internet company, however, nobody can beat the customer service of USAA.
As far as insurance cost difference in the X vs. regular Tacoma, I agree with another poster that I don't think it's any different than any other access cab model.

Wow, lets see: you are 21 years old, have 5 points on your license, and drive w/o insurance. Amazing. You really should not be driving. Not judging just by the fact that you think its okay to drive w/o insurance, but based on you having 5 points you are probably a nuisance and a danger on the road not just to yourself but to everyone else.

We would switch to State Farm since we would get an additional discount b/c our homeowners insurance is through them --- but with my wife's 2 speeding tickets in the last year... it would cost us more than double to switch insurance companies right now. $400 ain't bad though... I have pretty sick coverage too as far as bodily injury and uninsured bodily injured goes.
Oh, and I guess the laws are a bit more forgiving in CA b/c it's illegal to drive w/o insurance in Virginia.

Hardly, its just as illegal and the going rate is $1000 dollar fine, 30 day hold on towed vehicle and suspension for a year. The poster that claimed he drives w/o insurance is the reason we need insurance.

so i called my insurance company, and i got a quote for my fiance and i on an 05 XR and the 98 taco we already have. keep in mind that i'm 21, he's 22, and i have a ticket on my record.
they quoted us $1400 a year for both vehicles, with full coverage on the XR and liability only on the other taco. is this reasonable??

Well, monthly that would be about 120.00 give or take. I pay more than that, but then again i have full coverage on my X and my wife's Corolla. But wit ha ticket on yiour record, i think thats very reasonable

when i was 22 i had a 96 mustang gt and an 00 ford ranged on my policy, it was less than $2000(like 1980) a year, i got 4 wreckless speeding tickets and it never went up. luck i guess. that just might be a decent deal, but being married you might think it would be beter, if you own a house it shoud be cheaper too

I must be getting out really cheap then, I have an 04 4 Runner and my 06 X and I pay $88/month for full coverage on both. It must be because I have my home insured through them as well. State Farm here in NC is who I'm using.

i'm with mercury as well, geico was a pain about the 98 taco because its got all the mods. mercury did liability no questions asked, but full coverage wouldn't cover the glass fenders, the suspension, or ANYTHING aftermarket.
right now with the chevy and the taco, i'm at $118/mo, but to add my fiance on it goes up to $400/mo cause the tahoe is 4x4

Just found out I pay ~$1400 a year full coverage, for my Taco. NJ has the highest insurance rates.
That is the cheapest I can possibly get. I have a clean record, and a CDL but I don't think that means squat.
How do I know it's the cheapest? Because my mom sells insurance, and I wish she worked on commission, because since Geico got so popular, I've been hooking all my friends up with rates that are $200-$1000+ a year cheaper through her.

:D At least your a cool oldtimer...
As long as you are not one of those left lane bandits that like to clog up the highways and get your nuts off by dictating how fast everyone else can go, or so oblivious to the fact that you are causing accident behind you as you creep along?
Old people need to be tested... "I hit the gas instead of the brake":doah: That is the common old timer excuse.... Well hit that **** on the damn highways and not in shopping centers please. Have your brain farts where it counts.
Highways = fast, school districts = slow... for normal people.
"I just wiped out a schoolyard of kids when I slammed on he gas instead of the brakes and my car exploded into flames, but no charges will be filed because you can't hold a person with no mind accountable."
Sorry officer... I dropped my dentures and got out of the car on to look for them... I forgot I was on a highway. :D
Or the classic one where the guy set cruise control in the motor home and went in back for something:doah:

Nothing and I mean nothing pisses me off more than the seniors and the log & dump truck drivers here in my area do the same damn thing.I sometimes accuse the loggers and dirt haulers of thinking their driving there family vehicle in the fast lane.hell I think it could be there family vehicle. :waytogo: :waytogo:
