View Full Version : Trying to find an X-Runner (NC)

In 2001 negotiated with Raleigh's Toyota salesmen on two seperate S-Runners after educating them on the fact that there WAS such a thing as an S-Runner (they swore I was mixed up and there was no such thing, so I dug through their own literature on the sales floor and showed 'em!). Both times I got the price where I wanted it, but I walked out on 'em because they wouldn't accept cash. They insisted on financing me, and I ain't playing that particular game.

I eventually went through an independant dealer and got a deal I was happy with.

In time, a lot of other Toyota buyers started reporting 'salesman-ignorance' when it comes to the very existance of S-Runners. Now that most of them know there is such a thing, I wonder if they've all gotten word that Toyota ain't making 'em any more, and I wonder if they've gotten word of the existance of X-Runners.

Looks like my local Toyota dealer is getting about a dozen of them according to their inventory. www.fredandersontoyota.com they are located out of Raleigh, NC.
I just thought I would share that. I would like to get one, but my S is still doing too good for me to get rid of her.

I'm 99.9% sure that what you're seeing (a dozen X-Runners) is the TOTAL of the southeast inventory. I just don't see how Toyota would send that many X's to one dealer. To put it in perspective, my salesman told me that there were only 10 X-Runners allocated to the Mid-Atlantic region (NY, NJ, WVA, VA, MD, etc) for the entire month of November. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'd be pissed if they do end up with 10 when my ass is still waiting for my ONE truck to be built...

If this order burns through again, I'm saying screw it to the Taco and probably test driving something else that tickles my fancy http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Could be, I just went to their website and looked at their inventory and it looked like they were getting them pretty regular between now and the beginning of the year. Either way I wont be getting one yet, I want one, but my S is paid for and I only have 80k miles on it. Plus I have the Clarion LCD flip out in the dash and I don't see how I could mount that in the X-Runner w/o doing some custom plastic work. I'm sure they will come out with an adaptor for aftermarket systems, but until then, I'll keep eating tires up on my S.

You know all this hype about the XR comming out and all... I really don't see the reason a lot of people who have perfectly good SRs should jump the gun and trade one in (I know many are just talking and little would be so willing to part with their little truck http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) for the XR...

I can only see better trucks comming out in the later years and jumping on the first big significant change might not be the best idea... Regardless if it's the radio that won't fit, or the other little things...

I'd say, lets look forward to the 2006 model and see what else they might have cooking up... I'm almost certian if Toyota can't promise a blower, they might up the ante on the motor itself to further seperate the XR from the rest of the Taco line up... Thats the time when I wish I hadn't bought my truck when I did, however I have no other car and need to buy one http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

When I was shopping for my X, I ran into more than a few salesmen and even a manager that didn't know there was such a thing as the X-Runner. The manager even corrected me, "I think you mean S-runner" http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Its a neverending cycle. You buy a '05 and you want what the '06 has, you buy an '06 and want the '07 and so forth. I wouldn't buy a '05 though, this is the first year and no one knows for sure what problems the truck might have until they have been on the road for some time.

As it stands I wouldn't dream of trading my S/C S-Runner for a big azz X-Runner that may never have S/C availability. Now if they made a blown V8 standard cab X-Runner; that would have me drooling!

All I have to say is, "Did you see a X-Runner in person?" If you did, you'll probably think different... Speed isn't everything, and if it IS everything, there are things way faster http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Still tho, the S-Runner is a perfectly good truck, no point in getting rid of it unless you want a bigger truck...
