this truck would be insanely fast with a lot better traction, and a better driver.
the first run the tires spun all the way through first, i shifted into 2nd gear and all the way to 45-50MPH it spun and i did not get grip till i shifted into 3rd gear.
so i deflated my tries and took off slow as hell, i took off real slow, and gave it 3/4 gas all the way through 1st gear, then i put it into 2nd gear and floored it, and got a 2.39 60 foot time and still ran a 15.5.
the truck i have no doubt in my mind that stock it'll run mid-high 14's, it just needs a good driver.
then again, the very first race of the night i beat jerry, so it was over all good, just would be better with traction

WOOT I'm so happy the truck can do the 1/4 in 15.5 on horrible driving http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Look on the bright side, I might do 16's
It would be damn awesome if someone can put out a 14.5 on this bad boy... Then let the 350Z hunting begin!!

I'm sure you could have hit 14s if you used Charlie's (turbotaco) slicks.

Hate to tell you guys but thats as fast as that X is going to go. Your MPH will stay the same no matter what. The only thing that can help him is the 60 time. So look at the 1/4 time of the X as a whole. His 60 time was 2.3. At best he might get a 2.0 or even a 1.9. His 1/4 mile time will only get better with the 60 time. So might get a 2.0 60. He' still only looking at a 15.2. Get it. 3 tenths of a second, thats it. Now when the S/C comes out for the X, then he might be able to jump into the 14's.

so then you assume he is a great shifter and no time can be gotten there? i think admitting his is a bad driver is a clue. i think there is more than 1/2 sec between a very skilled driver and someone just learning to drive the x. ill bet my 5 bucks it'll hit 14's, just driving the x and having driven the s runner many times, there is no way the x isnt quite a bit faster.

I'll take that bet. No way is a stock X in the 14's. Power/weight ratio tells you that. Plus, the specs that are out so far show the X running in the mid to low 15's, and those are pro drivers.

Where did these mid 15 numbers come from? Who were the pro source to conduct the tests? I've been looking for a while on a professional review and have yet to find any links... Please provide a link as I would love to have a look see... All I have are the regular V6 Tacoma reviews... BTW, a TRD OR D cab tested by Car and Driver (link found on the front page) ran a 16.1 in the 1/4... Given the truck is a lot heavier and has less optimum tires for 1/4s but still ran a 16.1, I'd say the X can't be too far off from hitting high 14s...
I know I'm a newb and probably shouldn't say much more than that but I just see a lot of folks here still holding a grudge on the new Tacos... There is almost an aura that wants this truck to fail and make the S look even better... I could be wrong, but it already proves I'm stupid for saying this much already http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif =P
All in all, I think we should all hope the X can run as fast as possible because the next gen Taco will do even better and we can all only hope Toyota can keep cranking out fun to drive trucks since this is going to be my first and I might want to buy another one when I'm through...
P.S. If pro drivers are only hitting low 15s at best, then Kgrgunman you have bragging rights from now to the end of time because you ran a 15.5 easy http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Kauss, from what i can gather, the sentiment you sense on the site toward the x is that it is less than what we had hoped. Most people on here still think it is a great truck, but we were hoping for a true performance mini truck, and it is neither high performance or mini...
KAuss
11-16-2004, 11:21 AM
I think a truck that runs a 15 that hold .9G on the skid pad is performance...
I can't think of too many trucks that can run 14s stock without conditions being very favorable and still be a daily driver...
As for not being mini, it has to be in respects to era... I think 2005 is the year we redefine mini... Other than the Ranger and its clone the Mazda B, I can't think of another mini truck anymore... But even with the new size trucks now, yeah the Taco is really big... (Big has its own pros and cons)
I came up with my statement because not too many people will give the truck credit and give it the benifit of the doubt that no one has actually ran the truck enough to be comfortable with it... Everyone is SET on it running 15.5 max without
a) owning one
b) driving one
c) dragged one (not against)
d) took it on some of the nastiest twisties known to man
e) or just plain and simply providing a reliable source showing its short commings...
With that said, it's a bunch of people downplaying the truck who has little to no experience to it... This is what I meant by aura... I would expect fans of Toyota and their trucks to come out and give Kgrgunman support in trying to hit the magic number 14...
I was in 05 Frontier market before I read the final production specs of the X... I switched over because I don't think there will be another truck capable to keep up with me in stock form when I take it to Leguna Seca... Yes the SRT 10 will have a bad ass engine, but I highly doubt that thing will keep its speed around corners... It'll still smoke me and a horde of cars tho... As for the F150 Lightning, I think it would be a close and fun race to watch at Leguna Seca...
I also see lots of potential for the X and totally trust Toyota to make my truck run 10 years in stock form with no problems!!
I just hope I see more 05 Taco praise instead of "oh this truck is never going to be as good as the 00 - 04s" "I'll never get one because it's not a BMW Mini"
I don't want to start a flame war because I'm going to be constantly here once I get my truck... Hopefully I'll make a few videos when I'm finally comfortable to take my truck to Leguna Seca to share my experiences...
I do plan on doing a heel toe video like they have on motoring once I get it my footing routined... That was one of my biggest gripe with the truck is the amount of space you have to actually do heel toe...
I do wish the 06 to be better than 05 by a margin tho...
P.S. ochizon , I do thank you for the cool response to my absurd way to break in my newbdom... I'll try to be more open (I do read every thread) and try to squeeze all the positive I can get out of it http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

honestly, low 15's are okay for it... it's got 6 gears... it would seem that this trucks performance it based on it's ability to pick up speed after 60mph... after all if it wasn't it wouldn't have 6 gears...

yes lots of them have tests, almost everyone does actually. they are first drives tho, not full reviews. im sure toyota told them not to let out 1/4 on the x or something, b/c i search everywhere and have yet to find it. better set 5 bucks aside.......

You hit it right on the dot!! I haven't found any 1/4 times and I've tried every internet search syntax avalible...
I'm very curious what kind of launch method they would use to launch the X because it seemed very squirly down low... I was on a hill test driving the sucker and peeled out for a second slipping clutch around 2k... This was a steep hill and my X had the camper on it...
I just hope when they DO have a professional 1/4 test result, we'll all be the first to know!!
Oh yeah, and I too fit in one of those bullets I put up for people who argue over things they have no idea over... It's fun and games till I have to put my foot in my mouth sometimes hahahah

Thanks for the nice welcome everyone! Got my speedway blue X today. Very sweet indeed! I would also have to say after reading this post about the 15.5 time and what transpired to get it, there should be no prob getting this thing in the 14's. I have had a # of mustangs in the past and have raced them countless times.Based on my drag racing experience I think a 14 will come fairly easy. A few break in miles and we will see for sure. Definately looking forward to hooking up with some locals for some fun in the future.
