Because the X-Runner was the only model Toyota unveiled 'in the flesh' back at the January '04 NAIAS, a lot of people equated the XR with the '05's in general. It wasn't unusual from then until the '05's actually arrived for people (including auto journalists) to mix up XR's and '05's overall.
