a 4link is what would replace your rear leaf springs if you were to get airbags or hydros. The 4link is made of 4 bars that locate the rearend. The allow the rear to move freely and the spring action is then created by the airbags or hydro cylinders. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/draggin.gif

ALSO... they are good performance wise. They help prevent spring wrap or whatever its called. It isn't limited just to bags or hydros, in fact are used to help grip to the road. I'm planning on gettin the suspension asap by a place back in my hometown. They did it to a Lightning and they said it was a blast to drive that bad boy around curves and what not. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

With the 4-link you can also use Coil-overs instead for the BEST tuning capabilities for road racing

To put the performance aspect into perspective. I installed a 4-link on a 98 dodge dakota with bags. The run used to run a 14.1 and with the 4link installed his traction increase so much he dropped time to 13.86
He was able to put more power to the ground and that sucker would dig hard into turns and the ass end would just follow. Before that it was all over the place. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/draggin.gif

So I would need bags and a pump or can I use just coilovers

either 2 bags (part of air suspension), or 2 cylinders (part of hydrolic suspension), or a pair of coilovers are your only choices for your spring media when using a 4 link... of course being used in conjuction with shocks to complete your "suspension"

First what are you trying to achive? Do you want adjustable suspension via airbags. Or do you want a static drop that you can change the ride height if you have to by manually turning the coil keeper ring. You see airbags will allow you to slam you ride instantly, pick it up and go. Coilovers allow you to set the height and leave it there unitl you decide to pull out the jack and change the spring height. If you get bags and you want to 4link it then you will need the bags, bag brackets, 4link, shock mounts, step notch, new shocks probably, air tank, compressor, air line, fittings, switches, electric valve to move the air and a guage to monitor it all. I think i got it all basically. I hope this helps

Im gonna be getting my 4link soon(if anyone has one for sell, hit me up). I am running a monoleaf right now, major axle wrap! Tacofel, is your 4link forward or reverse? I really dont want to move my gas tank and my bags are on my axle. Which is better?

a forward 4link will always be better than a any reverse. but as you just proved, most people dont want to deal with the gas tank and run them reverse or half reverse and half forward. forward is always better. you will also have a better ride if you get those bags off the axle and onto a link bar somewhere.

Glad I saw this post I was about to make one myself. So a 4-link, reverse 4-link, Triangulated 4-link and a parallel 4-link are basically all gonna do the same thing, but a forward one is the "best". I'm not a supreme gear head, so I'm only guessing here, please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, with a 4-link, you DO have control of both rear sides individually correct? I haven't posted in a while, been going through some chit, but I'm mad ready to get back on the horse and finish this project to be the best it can be.

Another thing, I can't tuck tire in the rear w/o rubbing, I took out the inner fender wells and grinded the rim of the inner fender(the metal part) down to try to accomodate(sp). I have since took off my 4" blocks since I removed my middle leaf to get that low in the first place, and I'm not gonna bother with the AIM springs since I'm getting bags and a 4-link anyway, what happens when I CAN lay frame, but can't tuck rear tire? BTW, they are the stock rims, I forgot to get an offset on my 18's, I'm giving them to my buddy, let him try to buy a vehicle around the rims, lol, told him good luck.

With the 4link properly installed you will be able to tuck the rear tire and about 1/2" of the rim when teh truck is laid out. Just remember when you get new wheels get ones with a +40 - +45 offset and you'll be good. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/draggin.gif

so, with a 4-link correctly hooked up, I will tuck my tires/wheels, stockers or not right? cause I'm talking about the stockers, the 18's were too heavy. I'm not trying to be difficult or a post whore, I'm trying to be completely clear on this for my own sake.

The stockers in the rear will be really close to the bed sides but you should be ok. If you got a 195/70 it would fit a bit better. I remember my stockers being very bulky, 210/70 or something like that. Eiether way the 4link is the way to go if you want unsprung suspension and a smooth ride with better traction. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/draggin.gif

215/70R14, just got new tires Monday, I ran the old ones into the ground, literally, I cut my fingers on the steel braids when I ran my hand around the tire, just to check it.
