sorry i missed the 85, thought it was a standard 75. very few tires come in an 85 and yeah i went to ttora and looked at the tire converter, and it comes out to a 33, but i dont know how reliable it is, since a 305/75/r16 comes out to be 34x12.5, but when measured its a 33, just my thoughts.
and about the 70, mine came with 265/75/R16 BFG AT, i just went down stairs and looked, but most do come with 70. kinda odd now that i think about it.

The stock tires on a tacoma are 265/70/16's, however most people (including me) go with the 265/75/16's for replacements because they are 1) cheaper and 2) fit just fine. It even gave my truck an artificial .75" lift http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I'm reffering to the tacoma's that come with 16's, which would be TRD's and some others i believe.

All 01 and up tacomas come with 16s and the 95-00 came with 15s from the factory.

Are you trying to go with larger tires or just want to know the conv. between the sizes?

Actually I saw an awesome double cab 4x4 taco and I quietly snuck up to see what size tires were on it and this was the size...I wasn't familiar with this size and was curious.

265/75/16. Is the largest you can run without a "lift" in the front.
INACOMA has my old 265/75/16's on his truck as we speak. And i think he just used a "spacer" in the front. A spacer is very inexpensive when compared to coil overs .I bet you could find used one's from someone on here also.

blown01 did you have to put the spacer in to fit your 265/75/16's? I just got new BFG AT KO's in that size and I have no spacers or lift. I haven't had any rubbing problems yet but I also haven't gotten out and done any hard core wheeling. I seem to remember others talk of rubbing though so I'm wondering if anyone has any input...

And excuse my ignorance (I'm very new at this) but where does the spacer go, what does it do? Is it the same as a mild body lift?

No rubbing on my 4x4 with them, andy "inacoma" Has the same truck but in a pre-runner. He had mentioned they rubbed on his truck.
The "spacer" basically increases the ride height of the front coil.
It "lenghtens" the whole coil-over assembly, causing the ride hight to increase.Very inexpensive, very easy to install.

Thanks for the info blown01. I don't think I'll have any problem running those size tires off road(if I i'm right they're only 5% of 265 mm taller than stock). I think they just feel taller to me because they have full tread and I replaced a set off really balding rugged trails.

Does going from a 265/ 70 / 16 to a 265/ 75 / 16 do anything to the speedometer or the odometer? What about gas mileage? Any difference?

A 265/70 is 30.6 inches overall height.
A 265/75 is 31.6 inches overall height, a full inch taller, or 3.3%
At 70 mph, you will actually be going 72.31 mph. Your gas mileage will take a small hit, but remember your odometer will be slightly off too, so you have to figure that back in to get your true MPG. Just keep them pumped up to 35 psi or so on the road.
