my car has been grinding into 2nd alot and i went to see if the warrenty would cover the problem and they said it was 75 for the diagnostic and then if it was the cluth 600 bucks or if it was the tranny it would be free. it has 52000 miles and i wanted to know how much it would be to get the clutch done somehwere else and what clutch brands are good. thanks

i was thinking about jsut getting a clutch done somewhere and see it ifixes the problem and if not get the tranny looked at under warranty, the thing is i dont want to take it to the dealer and let them try to fix it cause they might just put on a clutch and it'll be fixed then im screwed for 600 dollars. i dont think its the clutch though cause i can still chirp and it wont grind if i just ease it into 2nd, which takes like 3 seconds...what do you think it could be?

Check your fluid, and then change it with some thinner fluid, you might just be shifting to fast for the syncros with the fluid oyu have in there, so try that and drive for about 50 miles or so before layin hard, hopefully this helps. http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Long - congradulations on the new UNDER warrenty Trans http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/clapping.gif have fun breakin it in http://www.CustomTacos.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evil.gif

Just curious, what is you're driving styles? I shift at about 10-15 to 2nd then 25-30 in third with the AC on? Just want to know cause my trans shifts like crap (best described as a clunk, ocasional grind - but my foot is on the floor when i shift) but I dont got that kind of cash to remidy it. What type of replacement trans fluid would you recommend, The next time I go to the shop I will have my trans flush (can it be done with a manual?) and some new fluid put in.

well i usually shift at 20 into second and ride that to about 40. maybe thats why i use a whole tank in 2 days. but im not sure about the tranny fluid, my brother has alwasy gotten the car serviced at the dealer, you know those 15k 30k service things. i think some other people have had the problem and just replaced the synchros but im not compelety sure.

that is probably it, we have that problems on the 03 Rolla too when we go from 2nd to third too fast. I've now got it just right where it wont grind but still chirps on that shift. I doubt that the clutch will go bad on 52K unless u slip too much or peel out. anyways, keep us posted on what happens, if it is the clutch, go with a perf one, they work really well
