I'm curious as to if there is a specific pattern you must rotate tires in or not.

I want to flip flop my right rear tire with my left rear tire but the haynes manual that I have says you should switch the tires from front to back and leave them on the same side. Is that just suggested or is a requirement?

It depends on a couple of things. How old are the tires, and do they directional tread? If the tires are worn, and you switch from side to side, the tires will start to wear abnormally and throw the balance way off.

The tires are about a year old. I'm not sure about directional tread....how can I tell? The reason I want to go from side to side is that the right rear is more worn than the left rear due to wheel spin and I want to even em out a bit.

The reason I don't want to go from front to back and vise versa is that the tires in the back are a diff brand (BF G) and they have white lettering where as the ones in the from and cheapo with no white letters and I thing they would look gay in the back with white letter tires up front.

usually they will post on the side wall if it is "Uni-Directional" Most of the time the Uni-Directional tires are some H-rated and All Z-rated tires. Usually size 17" or higher tires.. I dunno about 16... never had them...

So if it's "uni-directional" then I have to keep it on the same side so that it spins the same way? That sucks.

For the most part, if you have aftermarket tires, you HAVE to go front to back on the same side. It sucks, but must be done.

the correct way to rotate tires would be the rears go straight to teh front and the rears are switched.

rear right to right front
rear left to left front
front right to rear left
front left to rear right

If you want to you could get the tires turned around so you have blackwall all around, the rotate as per Akhwa's directions. It is the way I do mine with my ****ty stock tires, damn I need money for plus sizing, any offers??

I thought about it but then they look even dumber. Guess I'll just have to switch 'em and see how it looks.

Anyone have any idea what a sparetire and wheel from a taco at a junkyard might cost.

go to those little tire shops in town.....it's about 20 bucks for a used tire and balance....
