As we reported earlier today (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/23/gm-releases-global-sales-numbers-for-2007-in-dead-heat-with-toy/), Toyota is not expected to reveal the actual number of vehicles it sold in 2007 until later this month, but a source has told Reuters that the number should be about 9.366 million units worldwide. GM announced earlier today that it sold 9,369,524 vehicles around the world last year, which official makes it the world's best-selling automaker for the 77nd year in a row, though by the slimmest of margins.

We reiterate that owning this title makes little difference to either automaker. GM is in the midst of a turnaround in the U.S. market with sales in its own backyard still yet to rebound while Toyota is gaining marketshare in most regions around the world. Their global sales numbers are bound to cross paths at some point putting Toyota on top, and most analysts expect that to happen in 2008. Even if Toyota does pass GM in global sales for 2008, however, we don't expect it will be able to keep the title for very long before the General snaps it back. GM has a stronger presence in China and is doing very well in emerging markets, while Europeans seem to have taken a liking to the Chevy brand over there. If GM can get its U.S. sales back up, we expect it will remain the world's largest automaker.

As Toyota has said time and time again, being #1 with their customers is more important to them than being #1 in sales.
Given the choice, I would prefer Toyota to not be #1 and get back to making vehicles that are near perfect and not having recalls than to have Toyota be #1 in sales and be putting out vehicles that have issues galore and having at least a few recalls every year.
To me, as a customer, how many vehicles Toyota sells a year means very little. What matters to me is knowing that when I sign on the dotted line to buy a Toyota that Im confident that Im buying a quality vehicle that will last hundreds of thousands of miles needing very few repairs along the way.

So they sold more than Toyota which is cool in the sense that they made money. Unfortunately they'll be in the shop more than Toyota, and people will realize how dumb they are.

Bottomline- I'll smoke the Lexo (and any x runner with all the mods)- all day, and by far this car is a much better CHOCHA:evil: magnet... which is why it has been dubbed lil' bandit...

Even if it flew man, seriously

lease or outright?
did ya end up with some coin in the pocket after the lexo and buying the Sol?

I got some change-o for the lexo- like 3K for it- I'm still looking to get about another G... I bought the opel outright....
I need about 15K so I can finish the batmobile, and lower lil bandit (not to mention some other goodies). Then I'm set on the car thing- for a while...

15K?!?!?! hover conversion or what? LOL

if you would have gotten a economy car and pocketed the rest,
You'd be much closer ;)

I'm not baller status, so i can get away with that :)

8K would fix up the batmobile completely, 3k for "lil bandit" (new exhaust system, intake system, ECM re-flash, Big IC) 4K to re-fi the car- less payments- lower rate...

at one time the CEO of toyota said that they were going to put new model cars on hold and get there quality control under control. Well thats bad ass because you dont see that many recalls. Also GM may have sold more cars but atleast toyota will man up and say they have a design flaw were GM will let it go. My brothers silverado has crazy electrical problems and the guys at the dealer tell him thats very common. But GM doesnt do anything about it. Even my brother said this was his first and last chevy.

Lemme guess? Speedo went out? I was driving my stoned friends in my moms 03 suburban one time and the speedo started reading 50 mph faster than what i was going. I was going 70mph but the speedo said i was going 120 mph. My stoned buddies were screaming at me to slow down. One of them nearly wet his pants, they were so scared:runaway: . Thats the one time i loved having an electrical problem. I heard other GM burbans and trucks have the same problem

take away the sales of GM to the US govt and I think toyota would have passed them this year.

gm is only selling more cars cause they are using the korean daewoo factory to build aveos and cobalts so they can sell new cars for $10k. they are basically a rebaged daewoo. toyota doesnt have any cars that cheap

gm is selling more cars because they are working more towards quality. ie the new malibu and silverado interiors. Both are sexy.

I believe, if you look at the repair bays,of any shop, you will find a lot more "GM"s vs Toyotas getting fixed!!!! :headbang: I have had my share, of problems, with Fords and Chevys. I've had Nissans an Toyotas growing up (drove the living crap out of them 150k) Didn't have anything to fix, until about, 120k.(water pump, alter, tension bearing. Then bought,a Ford (new), 2- Chevys (new),and both gave me problem after problem,(within,30k). I'm now back with Toyotas! All of my vehicles, were trucks.

I was just in a Toyota dealership and while my truck was getting serviced one of the nicer trucks they had on the show room floor had a placard on the window stating that 60% of that particular truck was built in all places Baja Tijuana Mexico. I've been to TJ more than times that I can remeber, I thought all they had down there were strip bars and donkey shows... LMAO
