How Do You Change the Fuel Filter on a 2.4L Tacoma?

Does anyone have any tips tricks etc. on how to change the fuel filter on a '96 2.4L Ext. Cab Tacoma? The filter is beneath the exhaust manifold, on a bracket bolted to the block and has the EGR pipe around it on the front side and my large hands won't fit between the intake manifold, exhaust manifold and hoses on the back side. I can't even see the filter except by looking through a space in the exhaust manifold. The filter has banjo bolt fittings on both ends and they require two paper thin washers between each fitting and the filter. That's going to be really tough to line up when I can't even see the fittings.
The picture shown in my Haynes guide on how to replace the filter was taken with both the intake and exhaust manifolds removed. There must be some way to do the job without having to remove the manifolds. Any insight on how to get to the filter and change it the easiest way would be very much appreciated.
I would also appreciate hearing from anyone who has had the filter changed by a shop or Toyota dealership as to how much it cost and the name of the shop, if it was a chain, or is in the San Antonio, Texas area.

Thank you!

Yours, Blake

Re: How Do You Change the Fuel Filter on a 2.4L Tacoma?

Disconnect the battery

Take off the gas cap

Loosen the wheel lugs and raise drivers side and set truck on a jack stand

Take drivers side tire off

Look through the wheel well and you can get to the filter through there..

Loosen the ends on the filter before you loosen the bracket holding the filter to
make things easier
