Enola makes a good point about this being totaled prior to this damage. I know in Missouri if its totaled twice its deemed no longer road-worthy.

I too would pass on this, something doesn't seem quite right. And I've purchased 2 vehicles with prior salvage titles. My current car was purchased off Copart.

I'm amazed this is even a possibility. What are your insurance rates like there? The fact a company could somehow pay for a whole car twice

In MO a vehicle can be purchased with a salvage title, but cannot
be registered until it has passed an inspection given by the highway patrol deeming it safe again. Then it will be issued a "prior salvage" title. Once it has been claimed as a total loss a second time it will be issued a "junk" title to never be registered for road use again.

As far as insurance was concerned, the last prior salvage titled vehicle I owned was a 98 Infiniti QX4. Full coverage insurance for it, an 02 Olds Alero, and liability on my Tacoma ran me $130/month with a $250 deductible. I believe a total loss payout on the Infiniti was going to be 60% of one with a clear title, if it were to happen. Not horrible IMO.

I had a car back in the 90's that was bought with a salvage title. It was later in an accident and I was told that typically the value is 50-60% of regular value. I was able to get more because I proved it was repaired well. But if you buy I would ask your insurance company how they value after an accident. But I would not pay more than 50% and it better be repaired really well at that. Also in my experience I did not get any kind of insurance discount for my decreased value vehicle.

I went to look at the truck and it sucked lol. Both A-Pillars, the drivers door, and the front of the cab were all damaged. I attached the pics and a pic of the racist road sign nearby lol. I guess it's back to Craigslist....

Salvage means it will cost more to fix properly than it is worth. This is a no-brainer for most. Salvage should be in the salvage yard, not on the road...

That's using inflated dealer prices. I've seen many cars total that shouldn't be totaled.

An older car with a fender bender that set off the airbag will most likely be toatled. The airbag and dash alone will be thousands of dollars from the dealer. With ebay and salvage yards this will be hundreds of dollars.

The city totaled my buddy's older Cadilac due to the fact that the lower control arms were I believe $1100 a piece from the dealer. From the junkyard I believe they were less than $100. Same goes for the rim and air suspension. This was from hitting a pothole.

Some thefts are also salvaged. There are POS salvage titles just like the one I looked at but there are also good ones (mechanically). Resale value though, as many stated here, is usually going to be POS.

This is why my Infiniti had a salvage title. Nothing wrong with it, it was just a theft recovery after an insurance payout.

Ownage highlight all the key reasons for buying a salvage titled vehicle. With a little effort you can have a good vehicle for a very good price.
