Was the head overcut or just a bit too much timing? Did the valves touch the piston? I actually prefer higher static compression in an FI motor, for the street anyway.

I agree, the days of low static compression boosted motors is quickly coming to an end, finally.

Just look at the new FRS/BRZ. They come from the factory with 11.5:1 compression and they are boosting those with ~18psi+ making 400whp+ on pump gas. Or look at basically any honda build now days.

High Compression FI motors are on the trend to popularity and a few local guys have have done some really bad damage to their motors. Some precautions to doing it:

-Watch/Limit your boost
-Know how much power your bottom end can take
-Dont over do the turbo size

A friend in particular built an entire block 11:1 compression, went FI with it and basically his crankshaft said I'm out of here. That was with a decent sided GT42R. Other guys can get more out of a paticular engine, but never lose mind that your build can only handle so much power.

Naturally you have to build for your goals, that goes for any compression ratio.

High compression ratios will need a different tuning strategy, less boost and better intercooling as a rule but these are basics for any build IMO.

You also have to be reasonable with the compression ratio, for most engines 9-10:1 is the sweet spot, newer engines can run higher ratios then older ones as a rule.

With the ability of guys to use E85/water/meth injection now days high compression is the choice more then ever. Just look at all those stock block 5.3 GM truck motors making 800-1000whp with stock 9.5:1 compression. Or all the supras making even more with 10:1 builds.

It is about the whole package, got to make sure everything is working together properly.

Compression was 9.5:1
Pistons didn't hit the valves.

Overcut and prolly more than necessary timing...

when it was running it ran stupid strong... kinda hating that I sold it for like 2500... hahahaha oh well!

I'm all VEEP'd now.

man, i did 15.6 @ 96mph. 0-60 was like 2.50 or higher. this was with new tire and speeds traction bars.

I did 15.1 at 100 before.

What are u doing bro? lol What type of tires are u running and pls don't say street tires. At least run a drag radial either bf goodrich or MT.

I was hitting 1.9 60' times on drag radials.

This before you turbocharged it.. You gadda hit the track now that your boosted.. I'm curious what'll do @ 10psi.. High 13's at the worst I'd guess.
With a header, intake and some decent tires, my buddy Nate with his 04 standard cab taco ran 15.9 @ not sure..
I ran a 17.1 bone stock open diff lol
