td04 on a 2rz

I'm turboing my taco with a td04 from a saabaru. Has anyone done a build with a turbo like this? It's a little guy that is water and oil cooled, and I converted it to an external wastegate. I have questions about atmospherically dumping my wastegate and the water lines. Any help is appreciated.

Td04 is going to be too small in my opinion.. What question do you have about dumping to atmosphere?

Re: td04 on a 2rz

This is my first turbo build. I wanted to go small at first, but it'll be bigger eventually. Anyway, there are holes in my external gate that I don't really know what they're for. I have the v bands on the manifold and the dump pipe, but the holes on the top of the gate confuse me. Are they for oil or recirculation or what?

Re: td04 on a 2rz

hole on the top is to increase boost (from a boost solenoid or valve).

Any pressure entering the top of the wastegate will increase boost. Think of it pushing down on the diaphram so its harder for the wastegate to open. Any boost coming to the bottom of the wastegate (or side port) opens the wastegate. If you leave the top port open and just hook the bottom port to the turbo or any other boost source, it will open the waste gate when the turbo has made boost equal to the spring pressure in the wastegate.

Re: td04 on a 2rz

Thanks for the help guys. Any suggestions as to how to run water lines? What lines would have boost?

Re: td04 on a 2rz

T off the two lines on your firewall for coolant.

Any source past the throttle body is a boost/vac source. Most things will tie into this (BOV, gauge, standalone ecu's etc). Pre tb you should source your FPR and WG (if there is no fitting on the turbo compressor housing).

You should do a search, there is a lot of info on this.

Re: td04 on a 2rz

For some reason searches won't work on my computers lately. I'd blame my terrible computer at home, but it didn't work at my college's library either. It works on my phone, but I don't like trying to use a touch screen on tiny links. Lol.

Re: td04 on a 2rz

I don't think you understood me when I said its too small.. Ill try not to be too blunt, however.. A small turbo does not mean small power gains... I could care less if you want to start "small" ... It's not that simple.. Case in point, a td04 will damn near spool at idle on a taco, I have a tdo4 on my Subaru.. And let me tell you that sum bitch is tiny.. Your truck will choke past. 4000 Rpm's with that midget of a turbo.. And not only that if you run any considerable amount of boost it'll make so much heat you'll lose power and possibly detonate and destroy your motor.. So please.. Use the search on your phone since it works and get informed before you destroy something
