3.4 cylinder order

How's it going? I just recently threw some codes (PO300, PO302 & PO305). These relates to a multi misfire, a misfire on cylinder 2 and a misfire on cylinder 5. The pick up is an 01 with the 3.4 V6. My question is looking at the engine from the front which cylinder is which when it comes to engine codes? Looking at the three plug wires they are in some weird order (drivers side is like 5, 1, 3 from front to back. I want to find out which cylinders the computer relates the PO302 and PO305 to. Thanks for any correct help you can give with this.

Re: 3.4 cylinder order

looking from the front of the truck, look at the spark plug closest to you, thats #1. Then across the block on the other side, is 2..back and forth till #6...Got it?

Re: 3.4 cylinder order

One coil fires two cylinders.

Coil 2 also fires cylinder 5 I think.

You most likely have a coil problem.

Look at the plug wire on coil 2, if it is stock it will have the cylinder number that the wire goes to. Make sure it is cylinder 5.

To confirm it is a coil problem, you can swap coil 2 for coil 1 and see of your missfire follows to coil 1. If so, you probably need a new coil.

Re: 3.4 cylinder order

Damn, I almost got it right.

Coil three (cylinder 5) also fires cylinder two.

Anyway, move that last coil and see if the missfire follows the coil.

Re: 3.4 cylinder order

To all,
Thanks for the replies and all of your help! Waldog, thanks for the picture, I have the TRD blower on the engine so looking straight down on it to see which spark plug is closer to the front of the engine (#1) is a little harder. I was going to take a guess and would have had it correct but a picture is always better. With both misfire codes and those cylinders ( #2 & #5) running off of the same coil pack it is looking more like the pack it bad. I will clear the codes in the next day or so and swap the pack with another and see if the CEL comes on with two different locations then. The truck is a 01 with only 9k miles on it so those things must be junk (not enough miles for it to go back).

Thanks again
