Re: P0171 Check light code

It may not even be an O2 sensor. But it could be . You would need a scanner to see what the o2 voltages are . Could be fuel pressure, mass air flow sensor, ect sensor ,plugged injectors, or even the ECM. Just replacing an O2 sensor would be a guess without further diagnosis.

Re: P0171 Check light code

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...gen-sensor.php

Basically, it says:
P0171 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 1)
What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
Symptoms

You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.
Causes

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible Solutions

Possible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Be clear. Be decisive. Be safe.

Re: P0171 Check light code

p0171code is usually set by dirty MAF, but have seen poor quality gas cause these codes. E-85 will cause this code in a heartbeat. Clean the maf, then pull the efi fuse for a minute to re-set fuel trim memory.

Re: P0171 Check light code

Hey AsianTaco, check the IAT sensor on the side of the airbox. Most of my CEL issues have been because of this sensor. Clean it, and erase the CEL.

Re: P0171 Check light code

Co, if you want, come to my house, and I can see the snapshot of the engine conditions that triggerd this code. That will give us a good indication of the issue. I do suggest cleaning the MAF first, though. Clean the IAT too, what the hell...

Re: P0171 Check light code

WOW! Thanks for all the replies guys. Yeah my friend ran the check light for me. It said that the car was running too lean. So hmm, I hope it isnt the o2 sensor lol. I don't want to buy one of those things lol. I guess I'll give the cleaning MAF and the side plug a shot. I have an a K&N intake by the way. Uhh how do I clean the MAF sensor?

Re: P0171 Check light code

Could be either a dirty MAF, or failing MAF, or just a vacuum line that is loose or cracked going to the evap stuff. If it is a vacuum leak at the evap stuff it will normally throw a P0440 code along with it. Try cleaning the MAF with a el;ectrical contact cleaner. DO NOT TOUCH THE WIRE!!

"That's a huge bitch!"

Re: P0171 Check light code

Go to an auto parts shop. Get some CRC electrical contact cleaner, the one that leaves no residue.
