Re: '99 Tacoma fuel filter location

It's on the drivers side of the engine block under the intake manifold. Take your wheel off and you should see it.

Re: '99 Tacoma fuel filter location

If its warm out the tank will build pressure and push gas out the fuel line after you disconnect it from filter. Just take gas cap off to relieve the pressure.

Re: '99 Tacoma fuel filter location

I just replaced the fuel pump and filter on my 79 VW bus, and spent a couple days on my back under the van. I think my not changing the filter soon enough killed the pump.

So I went looking for the fuel filter on my 2000 Tacoma, and looked under the drivers side by the frame like I saw on a YouTube video, but nothing there. Then I started looking for where the fuel lines went in the engine compartment, and finally saw what looked like the same Toyota fuel filter I saw in the video.

Under the intake manifold! What the hell were they thinking? Everything else on the truck is a breeze to work on, but they put the fuel filter under the intake manifold.

Looks like you undo the fuel lines at the filter ends, and loosen the "filter to engine bolts" from the LH wheel well. I remember seeing in a Toyota video that there is a "projection" on the filter that goes in a "gap" in the filter strap to hold it in place while you tighten the fuel lines back on.

How often does Toyota call out in the SM for the fuel filter to be changed?

Never ... ??? ...

Seriously - the 2000 factory scheduled maintenance spec's never mention the fuel filter at all.

Re: '99 Tacoma fuel filter location

Thanks for the feedback, I will see if my arm has grown out enough to afford to buy the filter at my Toyota dealer.

Will also need to get a couple new "flex head, ratcheting, box end wrench's".
