toyota rear brake proportioning valve

Im doing some custom work to my suspension and the oem proportioning valve is kinda in the way with the way it hooks up to the axle. what would happen if i were to cut the rod that goes to the axle and not use it? It does something when the suspension drops it pulls doing something.

Re: toyota rear brake proportioning valve

The brake proportioning valve (BPV) controls the relative pressure (and hence the relative stopping power) of the rear brakes versus the fronts. It's designed to increase relative braking in the rear when you've got a load.

It's not a good idea to simply disable it, because this can make your braking behavior wacky. The usual tactic is to relocate it.

Do a search on:

... and you'll find lots of threads where the BPV (and approaches to dealing with it while doing suspension mods ...) had been discussed.

Re: toyota rear brake proportioning valve

ya but they have disc brakes not drums. I sent an email to wilwood asking. I Know somethings with brakes are setup for drums and others for disc brakes to control pressure.

Re: toyota rear brake proportioning valve

i dont know if it really does anything. just my two cents. i move it up and and down. both times it brakes the same with/without weight.

i get the feeling that the front discs do 80% braking and 20% rear drums.
