Rattle/Tapping under driver's floor board area?

I've got a rattle/tapping sound coming from my driver's floor board area. It only appears when the truck is sitting still at idle, as soon as I give it a little gas and the motor smoothes out, the noise goes away. I really can't tell if it is inside the cab or under the truck. Sounds almost like something metal or plastic is rattling against the firewall down low near the pedals. I've poked around and can't locate what or where it is. I know it is not the notorious dash rattle. Pushing pedals, turning hvac system on/off, moving steering column, etc. does nothing to stop it. Any ideas?

Re: Rattle/Tapping under driver\'s floor board area?

i would try lifting it another 6" jimmy
maybe even a good foot or so and throw on some 44" super swampers
then all you'll hear are those knobby tires whirlin down the street
now on a serious note, i have heard no such complaint or service bulletin on it.....
in a case like that in our shop, a technician will put on a stethascope (like the doctor has to listen to your heart), but it has like point or needle tip on it so you can poke around and listen to where it is coming from!!!!!
let us know what ya find out!!!!!!!!

Re: Rattle/Tapping under driver\'s floor board area?

It doesn't sound like the cat case, but i haven't ruled it out. It definitely sounds like it is coming from the driver's side. If I can't find it maybe I'll let the shop poke around. I need to have some warranty work done anyway, but am figuring they won't put out much effort to locate a rattle when they see i've got a suspension and body lift. Thanks for the ideas....keep'm coming

this might not be it.. but i had a rattle like that for a while. turned out to be a quarter under my carpet kit. it would rattle at idle but when i'd go, it would quiet down. this may not be your problem.. but this could be something to look for.

I have a rattle on the drivers side too, it sounds like its around the clutch pedal or behind the kick panel, Ive felt everything back there to see if it would stop the rattling, but i cant find anything either

My hood & steering wheel vibrate wildly at stop/drive/idle because of my fried TPS. Sounds like your cat though.

I had that rattle, but its on the passenger side, for me its the bracket that secures the header to the firewall, it got loose, but I have a 4cly, so I am not sure if its the same?

I've got a 4cyl too, but my rattle is definitely on the driver's side, around the clutch/kick panel area........I think.
