Codes; PO 441, PO 442, PO 446

My check engine light came on yesterday and my scanner gave me these codes. 441 is EVAP Emissions Control Systems Purge Flow Fault, 442 is EVAP Emissions Control System Leak, and 446 is EVAP Emissions Control System Vent Circuit Malf.

Any ideas what this is all about? Thanks for the help.

Re: Codes; PO 441, PO 442, PO 446

check your fuel tank cap (gas cap). is it all crudded-up? is it tightened properly? another question: do you stop fueling when the nozzle stops? or do you pump it after the stop and try to round-up to the next dollar?

you should always stop when the nozzle stops. maybe you could try to pump once after the stop, but continually pumping to the next dollar figure adversely affects the charcoal canister. a leaky/crudded-up gas cap could cause problems also.

Yeah, I always try and put a little extra gas in to round it off. I won't do that anymore. I have taken the gas cap off and re-tightened it and pulled off the negative wire at the battery terminal. Maybe that will cure it. How much is a new charcoal canister?

never top off..

get a new gas cap, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and give that a try..
I had that same setup.. always shoot for at least 3 clicks on the gas cap when tightening..

Re: Codes; PO 441, PO 442, PO 446

03/ Tacoma 2.4 the code comes up as a po 442 small leak in the evap system the code reader that I am using is an actron cp9125 and the reader has been good at telling me what is going on so far I am on my third head on this engine the bottom end has 350,000 on it with good compression no smoke I have looked at all the lines under the hood they look good I just am trying to get away from droping the fuel tank to see if any of those lines are leaking and I sure don't want to take it to a dealer to get bent over and sold something I don't need

Re: Codes; PO 441, PO 442, PO 446

Here (attached) is the diagnostic section on P0442.

Unfortunately, a P0442 indicates a small leak somewhere in the overall EVAP system. The leakage might be up front or in the back.

On top of that, code P0442 might be triggered by a fault with either the vapor pressure sensor or the ECM itself.

I don't see much alternative except to follow the diagnostic procedure and hope the problem can be pinpointed earlier rather than later.
