96 fender flare question

Does anyone know if any of the later model oem fender flares will fit my 96 single cab 4x4 without major drilling or mods? I'm looking to go junker hunting to see if I can find something that accentuates style and practicality for a reasonable price.

Re: 96 fender flare question

Which later model flares are you talking about? ...

1998 - 2000 4X4?
1998 - 2000 PreRunner?
2001 - 2004?

... And do you already have flares?

Re: 96 fender flare question

I have no fender flares. She came stock with none. However there are a lot of accessible toyota trucks in junkers, 4runners and tacomas. I want to know any oem alternatives with minimal labor for reference, since i dont have the budget for or particularly like the aftermarket style.

Re: 96 fender flare question

OK ... Since you don't already have any flares installed, it's going to be a DIY mounting arrangement no matter which way you go.

In a way, that's good news. There are differences in mounting scheme (number and type(s) of fasteners) for different flare types and different years / eras.

The one thing that concerns me is how well any of the type / era flares fit up with the contours and body lines of your 1996 sheet metal.

The body lines changed for 2001 - 2004, so if this translates into any substantial fit or style issues you'd be most safe looking for 2000 or earlier OEM flares.

I'm guessing you'd be more interested in the wider flares (4X4; TRD) rather than the narrow ones used on early PreRunners and later on S-Runners.

Re: 96 fender flare question

Thanks for the info i'll search for a while to see what i can find, looking for my best option. Is there a site or document where i could see the changes made throughout the years however subtle they are, at least for pre 2000 models?

There's no all-in-one site or document that covers everything. However, if you specify which version you're interested in, I can probably scrounge up some factoids and illustrations (of mounting schemes) to post.
